Holiday Rental House
We have a large lovely, Spanish-style hacienda with traditional wooden beams and floors and lots of natural light. The house is completely detached with its own walled-in courtyard and private garden space -- a rarity in the heart of Cuenca. Red-masked Parakeets, Yellow Southern Grosbeaks, & several varieties of humming birds visit our garden regularly. The historic district of El Centro is less than 10 minutes away by foot or taxi. Two major river green ways are 5 minutes away, perfect for walking or running. We are in one of the only flat parts of town, close to parks, shopping, restaurants, and medical services. Two major river green ways are 5 minutes away, perfect for walking or running. We are in one of the only flat parts of town, close to parks, shopping, restaurants, and medical services. Our home is a traditional, Spanish-style hacienda with exposed wooden beams, floors of wood and ceramic, and lots of natural light that streams through the large wooden windows. The house is two levels with several large community spaces downstairs and private bedrooms upstairs. There is one main central staircase with sturdy railings and risers a good height for walking. The bedrooms are good-sized, as are the baths, and each bedroom has large windows that look over our backyard and to the archaeological ruins of Pumapungo -- the 2nd most important archaeological site in Ecuador. Bedroom 1 has a double bed, night stands, & lamps, chair, and a big built-in closet. There is a shared large bathroom with shower with plenty of hot water. Additionally, this room has lovely light and gorgeous views. Spa quality linens and towels are provided. Cuenca is one of the few places in the world that is considered to be temperate in its weather -- not too hot or too cold all year round. Our house is typical of Cuenca in that we have plenty of blankets for col weather and big beautiful windows for warmer! Guests are welcome to sit outside, either in the gardens or on the covered patios, and can use any of the 3 major sitting areas inside the house -- two living rooms downstairs, plus a sitting room upstairs. Guests also have access to a refrigerator and pantry space to store small food items and drinks and can use the microwave and toaster oven to reheat leftovers. A hearty breakfast is served each morning. We are located in the El Vergel area of Cuenca, a barrio that is close to hospitals, parks, shopping centers, El Centro (the historic district) and two of the four rivers in town. It is considered to be one of the most desirable places to live in Cuenca walk-able, pretty, and friendly neighborhood. Cuenca sits in a geographic depression, with the city in the center surrounded by mountains. Our home is in one of the only flat parts of town, which makes it great for walking and running at altitude. You can head out the door and hit one of the river greenways within 3 minutes. We do our best to live and work by following intentional practices of mindfulness, simplicity and generosity. These practices sometimes take the form of classes or workshops in our home on a variety of topics, including yoga, tai chi, meditation and contemplative wisdom. If we have events scheduled while you stay with us, you are most welcome to join us! We also have a wonderful yoga studio in our neighborhood. That stated, we are not a good fit for people who want to party or stay out late -- we go to bed and rise the next day fairly early and observe quiet hours. We also are committed to recycling regular household items and conserving water as much as we can so we appreciate guests who do the same. More

Interaction with guests
We are a good fit for people who are visiting Cuenca for a vacation -- self-sufficient independent adults who enjoy the adventures travel can bring and who have general questions about Cuenca or surrounding places to visit. This house flows well and is a perfect fit for solo travelers, writers, and anyone looking for a sanctuary close to El Centro without being in the middle of it. This home is also gay friendly. Since we work full-time, it is difficult for us to give the in-depth attention that visitors who are considering relocation to Ecuador might require. If you're thinking about moving here, and have detailed questions, we would ask you contact a local facilitator to assist you with up-to-date information.

The house in Cuenca is really beautiful! I enjoyed having a view of the Inca ruins from my room. Stacy and Joanna were the best hostesses ever, welcoming us into their home almost as if we already knew one another. I left feeling as if...More

About the neighbourhood
We are located in the El Vergel area of Cuenca, a barrio that is close to hospitals, parks, shopping centers, El Centro (the historic district) and two of the four rivers in town. It is considered to be one of the most desirable places to live in Cuenca finding just about everything you might need within a few blocks of or home. Cuenca sits in a geographic depression, with the city in the center surrounded by mountains. Our home is in one of the only flat parts of town, which makes it great for walking and running at altitude. You can head out the door and hit one of the river greenways within 3 minutes.
Getting around
Taxis and buses are plentiful around town and easy to pick up from our house -- walk less than a block and you can find one with no trouble. Buses are currently 25 cents per ride and taxis are about $2-$3 to get you anywhere in town.
