Amazing experience!
My wife and I stayed here for 4 nights. It's a large house and having 3 bedrooms and several bathrooms would easily accommodate 6 people comfortably. Saïd, the house manager was a delight and very helpful. The house is right in the center of the medina which was the perfect location for us. The rooftop terrace has 360 degree views of the medina and surrounding countryside. Being on the rooftop during the call to prayer was a surreal experience I'll never forget. If you like being immersed in an exotic culture, this is the place to stay! Highly recommended!

The best place to stay in Fes
The house was the highlight of our week in this fascinating ancient city. The house has been stunningly restored by the owners, and the roof terrace is amazing, providing a much needed escape from the frenetic medina. It is stunningly located next to Moulay Idriss, and we all felt it worth it living within the old city. It was so quiet considering how central it was! The local eating options are pricey and limited so be aware, and the house is not the Hilton, so take that into account (e.g. nice to have hot showers, but they are not power showers, and the hot water comes and goes in the middle floor). The staff are the other highlight - housekeeper Saba a total delight, house manager Ahmed very helpful, wonderful driver Aziz if you opt for the big car - total luxury 6 seater for day trips (Meknes and Moulay Idriss nice, don't bother with the Roman ruin!). Great communication from the lovely owner Sonhild who is a true passionate lover of Fes and though the price seemed expensive for the whole week (compared to say a gite in France, remember this is a developing country), when you go to stay, it is worth every cent. As for costs, though local tagines cost 60-100 dhirhams, and the tourist trap restaurants had 'menus' for 250, a local pizza in the new town cost 20-30 dhirhams, putting it into perspective. Might be worth having a shopping trip first in the new town supermarket, as hard to get groceries locally unless you are a local, and you get a bit 'tagined' out after 4 days! Don't go to the restaurant SEKAYA, such slow service for such average food! Restaurant Fassi by the blue gate was our favourite. Local orange juice is stunning! Truly, we would stay here again if in Fes. Don't hesitate to book if you want a 'real' Fes experience, but book the whole house (3 bedrooms - all double rooms, the ground floor can be split into singles). A lot of steps in the house, butt the view from the top is so so worth it.

the center of fes medina
What a surprise when we entered the terraces, we were meters away from the famous qarouinne mosque of fes. And as the mosque is just under renovation, it is rather quiet as well. So do not hesitate and stay there now. The house is really worth any penny or cent or dirham. Certainly it has steep and small staircases and certainly it is an old house, but this is the treasure of it. Arrival was well organised and with the infos from Ahmed, it was easy to fond the entrance again. And Saba really is a theasure. Many thanks that we could stay there!

A Lovely Stay at Dar Sienna
I stayed at Dar Sienna with my two young children, two older children, my husband and a friend. We rented the whole house. It's a lovely house situated in the old Fez with real live Moroccan neighbours. The bedrooms are all a decent size and the features of the decor are gorgeous. The best bathroom is on the middle floor. It was good to have WiFi. The best part of the house are the rooftop terraces which have stunning views. Ahmed and Sabah were lovely. Ahmed speaks perfect English. It helps if you have some French or Arabic to speak to Sabah. I would definitely stay there again although Fez stairs are steep so only fit people can stay in Dar-Sienna, or any similar house in Fez for that matter.

Comfortable quiet house in the middle of the medina
Dar Sienna is a fantastic restored house just in the middle of the medina, next to the main mosques. If you would like to really be part of and plunge into the medina, this is the place to be. With two young children (who can walk stairs!) this was our perfect quiet resting place, enjoying the views on the terraces. For families a house is so much better than a hotel. Nights are really quiet, as there is no traffic in the medina. Starting the day with a good breakfast is perfect, and letting the pigeons fly. There are three bathrooms and there is a kitchen, and the house has wifi. And the great staff is really friendly and can help you getting around. We spend a week, which is definitely not too long to get to know the endless alleys of the medina. Do not forget to visit the hamman.

Located in the throbbing heart of the medina!
A wonderful house right in the heart of Fez medina. It's difficult to imagine a better location and offers the chance to really experience life in the Medina close up. Dar Sienna is located down a tiny street just meters away from Moulay Idriss mosque, and whilst the door of the house is very unassuming, as soon as you enter you are immediately transported from the hussle and bustle of the medina to a tranquil and relaxed residence. One of the highlights has to be the roof terrace which offers a great vantage point over the city and is easily one of the best terraces in the area (and offers even better views than the wood museum terrace located near by). A must is going up during the call to prayer, especially the first one of the day just before sun rise, which has to be heard to be believed. We traveled with two young children (3 and 6 years old), and experienced no problem with the staircases, even though they are narrow and steep. They loved the house as much as we did, and we would certainly return without hesitation. As mentioned in other reviews, this time of year can be cold at night, and the portable radiators were a welcome addition to an otherwise unheated house. There are plenty of blankets available though, and a hot shower is not very far away if you find yourself visiting Fez at this time of year. A review of the house is certainly not complete without mentioning two very helpful and genuine people. The wonderful Sabah, who prepared the very good breakfast every morning and did an excellent job in looking after us. Ahmed, the house manager, provided a very warm welcome, was always on hand if you needed any help, and made you feel at home right away. So all in all a highly recommended place to stay, offering the intensity of the medina right on your door step and a welcome sanctuary from which to escape it after a long day.

comfortable riad - good value
This riad is a great value and the staff go out of their way to make you comfortable. The beds are extremely comfortable and the view from the roof is unbeatable. I especially recommend the second story room with the large exterior bathroom - it is like a private hamam. The owners seem to love Fes, and do all they can to help their guests have a great experience. Each room has a binder with a map of the old city, a list of Arabic words and some information on local culture. A staff member picked us up from the train with a clearly marked sign. The breakfast was great. I look forward to staying here again. I especially recommend this to couples - or friends who don't mind sharing a bed.

Enjoyable stay with lots of extras
A very pleasant stay which was supplemented by great care taken by the proprietor and staff. From the outset the owner of this property went to great lengths to ensure that we had all the information at our disposal to make arrangements to get to this Dar very easy. We were welcomed and escorted to the Dar from the railway station and the staff went to great lengths to ensure that food and facilities were on hand. We stayed in the accommodation for a full month and the staff took care of house cleanliness and facilities. The Dar was centrally located with easy access to all places of interest in the old city. This was a truly enjoyable experience on our first stay in Morocco with young children. Recommended without hesitation.

About the neighbourhood
Absolutely all the major sites and sights are right near Dar Sienna. The best way to explore is perhaps take a half day official guide (arranged by us) and then go and explore yourselves. There are plenty of restaurants and cafes. Dar Sienna is ideally located in the heart of the medina, right near all the fabulous souks (markets). This is shopper's paradise. Fez medina is a UNESCO World Heritage site and the largest urban car-free zone in the world! Step back in time.... this is a medieval city, that is still fully functioning.... explore the wonderful craft shops and savour the sights, colours and sounds of this extraordinary city. Fez is the craft capital of Morocco and these are some of the craft workshops you can see: woodwork with sculpture and painting on wood, wrought iron, engraved copper, gold and silver work, ceramics, silk weaving and embroidery. We will provide you with a small map. The town of Fez is divided into three parts : Fez el Jedid (semi-old Fez) and Fez el Bali, old Fez where Dar Sienna is located, which make up the medina, and La Ville Nouvelle built by the French on a grid system. ACTIVITIES: Henna painting with our neighbour. Calligraphy, cookery, yoga, belly-dancing, Derrija and Arabic all at Café Clock Sunday sunset concerts at Café Clock 6.30pm. Check out the cultural agenda at Café Clock: 7 Derb el Magan, Talaa Kebira, Fez Medina

From Marrakech, the trip is about 7 hours and costs approximately 200 dirhams second-class or 300 dirhams for first class. The trip from Casablanca takes about 4 hours and costs 100-150 dirhams. From Rabat it takes about three and a half hours and costs 75-105 dirhams. By Car Fez is about 4 hours' drive by car from Casablanca. The stretch of toll highway from Rabat to Fez is in superb condition. Traveling by grand taxi (inter-city taxi), though more expensive than trains, is viable for tourists- a ride from Fez to Casablanca costs approximately 1200 dirhams (120 euros), which is not bad if you are sharing the cost among 3 or 4 passengers. Note that grand taxi fares are regulated and it is worth checking the official rates with the tourist board, as some drivers or hotels will quote inflated prices. Within Fez, use petits taxis (local taxis) rarely cost more that 15-20 dirhams. However, the medina of Fes el-Bali is only accessible from a few points by car. Bab Boujeloud and nearby Place Batha are popular dropoff points, as is Place R'cif; for parking there is spaces at Ain Zleten on the northeast edge of the medina. Our meeting point for guests is either at the airport, the train station or the airport. BAB R'CIF is the closest access point. By Bus The old bus terminal ('gare routiere') is just outside the old city on the north side, near the Ain Zleten entrance to the medina. Grands taxis (inter-city taxis) can also be obtained here.
