Walk, cycle,ride, swim, explore or simply relax at Chez Elise. Our beautiful 200 year old gite is situated in the stunning Livradois Forez National Park amid the dramatic landscape of the Auvergne and comes equiped with wood burning stove, dishwasher, washing machine, TV/DVD,and excellent bed and linen. The village of Vernet-La-Varenne with all amenities including a Monday morning market and a pretty bathing lake is a 5 minute drive away along quiet country roads., we often walk or cycle this scenic route.Chez Elise is a large one bedroom cottage.The upstairs bedroom can be set up as a double or twin room.Children are very welcome , and we will be delighted to provide a cot and high chair. This gite was everything we hoped it would be from the description given. A wonderful location and fantastic accommodation. Great ambience, spotlessly clean, almost no traffic (apart from tractors…it was harvest time) surrounded by beautiful farmland…with very friendly farmers! About the neighbourhood
There is a host of outdoor activites in the area to suit all tastes.

Walking

There is a fantastic choice, including a petite randonnee which passes the door of the gite. It is a twenty mile circular walk encompassing the two main villages in the area, and is blessed with beautiful countryside and the most spectacular views of the Cantal mountain ranges.
We will supply you with all the information needed to ensure you enjoy your walks to the full, as we have spent many a happy day traversing the counrty side.

Cycling and Mountain Biking

There is a mountain bike centre ten minutes drive from the gite, with numerous way marked trails.

Getting around
As we are in the middle of one of the biggest national parks in France a car is essential for getting around, on the other hand there are plenty of beautiful walks to be undertaken straight from the door, walking maps are supplied along with a number of bikes free of charge for cycling around the nearby villages.
The nearest station is 24km away in Issoire its 20 Minutes by train to the city of Clermont -Ferrand.

Airport: Clermont-Ferrand: 50.0 km
Railway: Issoire: 20.0 km
Ferry: Calais: 800.0 km
From Paris take the A10 motorway south via Orleans, from there follow the A71 motorway to Clermont- Ferrand and then take the toll free A75 south for 30km to Issoire.

Exit at junction 13 taking the first left cut off at 100metres onto the D999 signposted Parentignat.

Follow the D999, bypassing Parentignat, up into the hills for 20kms, following signs for Vernet-La -Varrene and St Germaine L'Herm.

Upon entering Vernet-La -Varrene turn left opposite the Post Office onto the D75, ( the road is narrow between the buildings just past the church).

Follow the D75 for 2 km. and take the left fork onto the D89 signposted Chameane and follow this road for 3 km, once through Chameane take the right fork onto the D707 signposted La Vachere.
