Farmhouse
Viki and Richard welcome you to their farmhouse gite in Arces, close to Royan in South West France. Here you will enjoy the peace of the countryside while being only 10 minutes from the nearest beaches. We have recently completed the renovation of our lovely 18th century farm complex to create both a home for us and a spacious and comfortable gite. The original farmhouse, a Charentaise demi-longère has become the gite with 4 en suite double/twin bedrooms sleeping up to 8, living room, kitchen and private gardens. We have created our own living space alongside in the barns and farm buildings. When the gite is not in use we offer the two downstairs bedroom suites as Chambre d'Hôtes or bed and breakfast.

agréable séjour
Nous avons passé un agréable séjour entre amis dans cette grande maison bien décorée, avec 4 chambres spacieuses avec chacune une salle de bains et toilettes. L'endroit est bien situé en étant proche des plages . Les propriétaires sont très discrets à proximité et très sympathiques. Nous avons été très bien accueilli et le logement était propre. A Recommander pour un séjour entre amis.

Très agréable
Nous avons séjourné en famille dans cette grande bâtisse décorée avec goût, aux 4 grandes chambres équipée chacune d'une salle de bains et toilettes. L'endroit est très calme tout en étant proche des plages et des magasins, marchés. Viki et Richard, les propriétaires, vivent discrètement à proximité et sont des hôtes très sympathiques, de bon conseil. Idéal pour un séjour en famille ou entre amis. Nous recommandons vivement !

CALME ET ACCUEILLANT
Nous sommes déjà allés 2 fois dans ce gîte et nous allons y retourner cette année avec d'autres amis. Les propriétaires sont accueillants et toujours prêts à vous rendre service. Nous avons apprécié les chambres spacieuses, la cuisine équipée et le grand salon, ainsi que le jardin clos pour les enfants en bas âge. Très bonne adresse

A great Gite very spacious.
We are four mature discerning ladies who like our home comforts. Chez Sampo provided everything we needed including wall to wall sunshine! The Gite is huge with four very large bedrooms all en-suite.it is as expected of a 17th century farmhouse very rustic and charming as is the village, although the boulangerie was closed all the while we were there a problem! There is a tiny bar/retaurant run by an eccentric lady who chain smokes and sings to herself outside while you sip your pre dinner Ricard. Richard and Viki are great hosts and nothing too much trouble. The garden is enclosed and great for children and des toutous ( doggies) Richard and Viki very kindly allowed us to bring our four little pooches.The garden has many fruit trees although we missed the fruit as it was coming into Autumn and a couple of resident hedgehogs who confused the dogs somewhat.! We spent a month there and went out everyday finding beautiful villages and beaches, never bored. One of our party is a keen cyclist so she took her bike and had a fantastic time exploring the very many off road cycle tracks through vineyards and sunflower fields. In conclusion it is not the Ritz but we didn't want it to be, great value for money in a super spot in gorgeous Charente Maritime. Home 2 days missing it already.

Au regret des prestations
La maison est mitoyenne à celle des propriétaires, située en bord de route passante. Il y a deux chambres en bas, dont une très humide, les murs de la salle de bains étaient moisis ainsi que la cabine de douche. Les chambres du dessus ont un parquet très fin et donc très bruyant. Nous étions en famille avec deux enfants en bas âge et ce ne fut pas du tout l'idéal. Pour se garer avec 3 voitures cela n'a pas été simple non plus. Pas beaucoup de places aux alentours. La porte du frigidaire était cassée et fermait très mal, nous devions limiter le poids afin de garder la fraîcheur des aliments. La machine à laver le linge était pleine de moisissure également. Il y a un très beau jardin plein de fruits mais comme il était laissé dans son jus il y avait beaucoup de guêpes, bref ce ne fut pas des conditions idéales avec des enfants en bas âge. Nous trouvons après tout cela que le plein tarif qui nous a été facturé est inapproprié comparé aux prestations sur places. De plus, la totalité du séjour nous a été demandé 1 mois avant. Ce qui n'est pas réglementaire. En bref nous ne recommandons pas du tout cette location. Surtout que nous dormions dans la chambre humide avec un enfant de 18 mois autant vous dire qu'avec une humidité à 77 ° heureusement qu'il y avait l'air de la mer pour améliorer ses bronches.

Oooh – 5 star record broken! Strange (and sad) that occasionally you meet somebody who is determined to have a miserable time. The matriarch of this 3 generation family group seems to have been one of these, or maybe there were hidden tensions . . . Being a traditional Charentaise house it is true that the floor of the upstairs room is the ceiling of the one below – that’s how they are built and how families lived for centuries. There is no dampness in this house, especially in mid-summer, although I admit that where one shower had leaked there was a little black patch in the corner. There was indeed humidity – the natural result of unusually heavy and stormy Atlantic summer weather. The fridge is not broken, but the mammoth bottle of coke left squeezed into the door did stop it closing properly. Unlimited free organic fruit does occasionally attract an insect or two, but nothing compared to a pint of beer in a pub garden. Sadly, despite leaving this review, this party did not book via Trip Advisor otherwise I could have reviewed the guests and commented on the pig-sty which faced us when they left. Ah well – you can’t win them all ;)

Great gite and great hosts
My wife, our neighbours and I stayed in the gite during the last week in August - the gite offered us great accommodation and as we were two couples it was super having two ensuite bedrooms. Richard and Vikki are great hosts, very welcoming and provide a gite with everything that you need for a memorable holiday and if you are lucky an evening with them listening to their music. There is plenty to see and do in the locality with some some amazing beaches within a few minutes drive - Royan is particularly impressive. There are also plenty of really good restaurants close by as well. One small word of warning that is not related to gite - beware of the the high kerb when leaving the petrol pumps at the Super U in Cozes as it can play havoc with alloy wheels.

Wish I was still there
A fantastic gite in a quiet little village location. Comfortably sleeps 8 in the 4 en suite bedrooms. An ample sized kitchen with dishwasher (don't want to be washing up on holiday) and a large dining table that seats 8 without being cramped. The garden is enclosed and private. Full of fruit trees including a kiwi tree which was a first for me. There's a charcoal BBQ, decking and outside dining furniture. Plenty of room for kids to run around and let of steam. The gite makes a great base. The village itself is very quiet with a bakers and only one restaurant. However you don't need to travel far to find more. A few miles away, on the coast, is Talmont, full of arty shops and restaurants. Next is Meschers, where the first beach is with Tina's bar almost falling into the beach. Restaurants are easy to find at the little port. Everyday there is market in St George sur Gironde and Royan has a fantastic fish market. All in all it's a fantastic place to holiday and quite frankly I wish I was still there.

idyllic spot, lovely gite
8 of us spend two wks here and had a wonderful holiday. the gite is lovely,large and airy enough to have your own space....garden was fab...each bedroom is ensuite. the area has some great beaches and excellent bars and restaurants. loads of historic sites and beautiful unspoilt villages....Talmont is amazing
