The studio is situated above and to the rear of the new detached limestone garage, next to the owners' house, and offers the freedom of modest self-catering (microwave, toaster, kettle) accommodation, whilst allowing for the option to dine out locally – ideal for short breaks, the minimum stay is 2 nights. Downstairs is the kitchenette accessed by a 13cm step, complete with the simple basics of a kettle, toaster, microwave and small fridge (no oven or hob) however the kitchenette is just perfect for a continental breakfast, pre-prepped meal or light bite! Adjacent to this is the shower room, with a really lovely spacious shower, and complimentary guest toiletries, and the living/sleeping area is upstairs via 11 steps. Sleeping arrangements are on the space-saving sofa, which converts easily into the comfy double sofa-bed (140cms wide x 204cms long) with memory-foam topper, sleeping two - it's designed to be used as the sofa during the day/evening, and switches easily to the bed at night and vice versa. There is a TV/DVD combi and free wi-fi for your use. Cosy heating is via electric radiators, and hot water is via electric water heaters. All bedding, towels, crockery and cutlery are supplied, and there is tea/coffee, milk and shortbread biscuits to get you started. A great range of local walks and guide books, a dining guide and board games are available for your use. There is also off-the-road car parking space for one car, a small outdoor seating area, and secure storage for bikes, climbing/walking equipment, golf clubs etc if required. Just a few strides up the road is the Red Lion Inn, which serves a good range of real ales and tasty food. Litton village shop is a community run enterprise, and stocks all your essentials. Tideswell, home to the magnificent' Cathedral of the Peak', has a lovely range of shops, cafes/deli's, pubs and local amenities (doctors, chemist, ATM etc) and is just 1 mile away. The market town of Bakewell, the Spa town of Buxton with it's renowned Opera House, stately Chatsworth House, the atmospheric Haddon Hall, Castleton with its Blue John mines and the plague village of Eyam are all within easy reach. The Monsal Trail, which mostly follows the path of the river Wye, offers spectacular scenery for the cyclist and walker - bike hire is available a short 10 min drive away. Chesterfield is just 16 miles away, with its links to the M1, and Sheffield (18 miles) and also Manchester (32 miles), makes the Peak District accessible to all. Whether you are a dedicated hiker or fair-weather stroller, a serious cyclist or relaxed biker, a museum enthusiast or are passionate about nature and wildlife, the Cotton Loft, Litton is in the perfect location for you to get the most from your short break in the stunning Peak District National Park. Julie and Steve have thought of everything to make the cotton loft a comfortable and wonderful retreat. Litton is a great location for beautiful scenery and access to local walks, such as the Monsal Trail. Really enjoyed our stay, highly recommend.

We loved the loft-perfect for our short break. Everything was immaculately clean with all the equipment you could need. Litton is a tiny village but we had a lovely meal at the Red Lion and walked easily into Tideswell where there was a food festival...More

About the neighbourhood
With a village green, old stone monument and stocks, Litton is described as 'a little gem of a White Peak village, set in glorious countryside'. Just a few strides up the road from the Cotton Loft, which is located in the centre of the village, is the local village pub, the Red Lion, which is a fine old inn serving real ales and a good choice of food. Well-dressing is in late June each year and is well worth a visit. Tideswell (Cathedral of the Peak) is one mile away and offer 4 pubs, a Co-op open till late, and several cafes/delis/sandwich shops and other local amenities. The market town of Bakewell is 7 miles away, the spa town of Buxton (home to the Opera House, one of Britain's leading receiving Edwardian theatres) is 9 miles, and the stately homes of Chatsworth House (9 miles) and...
Getting around
A car is advisable, although not strictly essential, depending on what you wish from your holiday. There are plenty of good walking routes from the doorstep, and we provide a range of guide books and maps for your use during your stay. Public transportation in the Litton area is quite limited, however there are bus services (66, 66A & 173) to the bigger towns like Bakewell, Buxton and Chesterfield. The nearest large train station's are either Chesterfield, Sheffield or Manchester. Buxton and Hope Valley stations are a short journey away from Litton (20 mins by taxi) and are accessible from either Manchester or Sheffield train stations. Chesterfield station is a 30 min taxi journey from Litton or approx. 1 hour bus journey (66/66A).
