Villa Ligeia + guest house, 14 beds

The view from the villa roof
1 of 21The view from the villa roof
Villa -
6 Bedrooms , 6 Bathrooms , Sleeps 14
Maratea, Province of Potenza, Basilicata
The Costa di Maratea is rightly famed for it's wild beauty and the Villa Ligeia arguably has the best view across the Gulf of Policastro. Sitting in 9 acres of gardens and managed woodland, the Villa and guest house offer rare privacy twinned with easy access to the fun and life of Italian dolce vita in Maratea and Sapri.
Most bedrooms have their own terrace, and there are four different dining areas in and around the houses, including a BBQ. Lounge around or read in living room, on one of the terraces, beside the pool, or in the hammocks in the woods. Sunbathe on the terraces, roofs or around the swimming pool. Enjoy a drink while watching the spectacular sunset from the main terrace or the roof of either house, which provide further outside 'rooms', wonderful by day or night. Private parking for up to five cars.

My friends and I have amazing memories of this Villa Ligeia. We saw the most incredible sunsets and the clearest night skies. There's a private path down to the sea, where we went snorkelling and explored the Mediterranean coast. We played games in the pool,...More

We were lucky enough to visit the villa for a second time this past October half term. I think we had an even more relaxing visit this time than when we visited in the height of summer. October was totally quiet on the roads and...More

Cannot stop recalling the beauty of this setting in Cersuta. Had never been to this part of the world but will return. The villa has stunning views and is super well-equipped. We cooked each night and ate outside under the stars listening to the waves....More

About the neighbourhood
Along our bit of coast there are rocky inlets and beaches, and picturesque fishing ports and hill towns. The many restaurants in the area offer excellent pasta, pizza, sea food and regional specialities. In the town squares you can enjoy watching the passers by while drinking coffee or eating ice cream - the famous Italian dolce vita. Our local town, Maratea, has lovely shops, markets and cafes if you need a break from gazing at our view and browsing through the library, floating in the pool or staring at the blue, blue sky.

In Maratea port you can hire a boat to go diving or to explore the coast from the sea. The Mediterranean snorkaling is a pleasure as the water is increadably clear.

How to get there
Airport: Naples: 220.0 km
Railway: Maratea: 4.0 km
Fly to Naples and either hire a car at the airport or take the InterCity train to Maratea and hire a car there. Both take around 2.5 - 3 hours.
To drive take the A30 south past Salerno (4 Euros in tolls) and leave at the Padula exit. From there drive down to the coast at Sapri, and then south beside the sea to Maratea.
