Set on the edge of a pretty village, within the Normandie-Maine Regional Nature Park, in Orne, Basse-Normandie. The cottage is only a short walk (300 me trees) from the centre of the peaceful village of Mantilly, famous for being the Capitale du Poiré (Capital of the pear). Here you will find a boulangerie for freshly baked bread and pastries, village shop, and a small restaurant/ bar 'Au petite Mantilly'. All surround a large church at the centre of the village. The village lake is also only a short walk from the cottage, and countryside walking/cycling routes through apple and pear orchards can be accessed from the doorstep. The cottage has a comfortable central living area where you can relax and enjoy typical French living and dining around the wood burning stove. There is a welcoming fireside sofa and Farmhouse table that seats up to 6, as well as a fully equipped kitchen area. The kitchen is recently refurbished, with a gas hob, electric oven, fridge with freezer compartment, coffee maker, slow cooker (for those days out) microwave and plenty more. A small portable washing machine is also provided. The main bedroom has a king-size bed with dressing table/ plenty of drawer space. There is a roomy wardrobe/ storage cupboard adjacent to the main bedroom with hanging rail and shelf for further clothing storage, and large mirror. Bathroom with full size bath and integral power shower. There is also an additional living room which can be utilised as a second double bedroom (very comfortable sofa-bed) or enjoyed as a separate living area where you can relax on the sofa to watch television (UK Freesat), with a book, DVD, puzzles, CD's and a few games provided. All of the above are situated on the ground floor. Outside is a secluded walled garden with small lawned area, flower beds of mature roses and fig trees. Also there is a gravelled area with BBQ, seating and dining table for up to six and space to play a game of boules. Lovely views over surrounding fields and countryside which can be enjoyed from your seat! Nearby; Passais is a quaint village nearby with excellent carp fishing, restaurant and local shops. Le Teilleul is another small town worth visiting around 4 miles away. There are local markets weekly in the surrounding villages, each held on different days so you will never miss the opportunity to visit one and stock up on local produce. For larger stores, towns such as Gorron have everything you will need. Our cottage is close to many places of historic interest such as Mont St Michel, WWII battlefields and D-Day beaches. Getting around
The cottage is situated in rural Normandy so if you want to travel to see the sites, a car is advisable. However, the cottage is located on a country lane leading off the village square, so the bar, shop, and boulangerie are all in walking distance. There is a local taxi service, which we provide details for in our welcome pack.
