The village of Seglien The village of Seglien is situated 8km from Guemene-sur-Scorf and 13km from the large historical town of Pontivy with its famous Rohan castle in Central Brittany. Seglien itself is a peaceful, friendly farming village with a tabac, bar, small shop with tea room, post office and the Marie (with tourist information). Bread, milk and other basic groceries can be bought in the village. Seglien also boasts a sports ground and a park with children's play area and public tennis courts. Walking and Cycling The beautiful rolling countryside lends itself to walking and cycling, from a gently ramble to a more strenuous hike. There are a number of walking trails leaving the village of Seglien itself with many more in the surrounding area. For those who like a challenge the walk around Lac de Guerledan provides an adventurous and scenic full day adventure. Water sports With Le Lac de Guerledan and the Brest / Nantes canal right on the doorstep many leisure activities can be focused on the water: sailing, canoeing, rowing, water skiing, swimming or just relaxing by the lake on one of the many beaches. History For history fans there are megaliths, châteaux , museums, and pretty medieval towns. The earliest people of Brittany erected numerous dolmens and menhirs dating back to 3500 BC. Inland is the medieval forest of Merlin the Magician, where the Knights of the Round Table searched for the Holy Grail. Golf Located at Bieuzy Les Eaux, just 25 minutes drive from Seglien is the beautiful Golf De Rimaison. Situated amoungst ancient ruins this 9 hole golf course has a spectacular setting that makes the golf enjoyable no matter how well you are playing or how experienced you are. For the serious golfer trips further afield towards Lorient will bring you to 4 or 5 top golf courses to test your skills on. Shopping/Markets Pontivy, Guemene-Sur-Scorff and many of the other local towns have weekly markets that make for an enjoyable shopping trip with a chance to pick up a bargain and sample the local produce. The markets highlight the best of rural France and are not to be missed.
