The detached stone apartment is situated it in a walled private garden with a large pool but located in a town and only 5 minutes stroll from supermarkets, restaurants, the market, banks, hairdressers etc. The secure off road parking is accessed via locked gates. The Apartment is in the grounds of the maison bourgeoise (221445 - sleeps 8) which may be occupied by the owner. The in-ground tiled swimming pool measures 10 x 5 metres, and depth does not exceed 1.4 metres. The Apartment. consists of a spacious sitting/dining area with large open fireplace, partitioned kitchen and screened sleeping area. Guests love the new walk-in shower with wc, washbasin with radiator. The apartment is a no smoking zone. About the neighbourhood
The local area is alive with red squirrels, raptors and other creatures rare in the English countryside. The meandering Charente river allows exploration by car, on foot, by bike or by canoe. The river valley and gentle hills are ideal for cycling along the roads and lanes which are little used by motor traffic, and many cycle routes are signposted locally. Innumerable chateaux are to be found within a few miles, the Chateau de Rochefoucauld is particularly impressive, with its neighbouring restaurant and chocolate factory. Also well worth visiting are the chateaux at Verteuil and Bayers, among many others. As well as fishing from the river bank which is private to the property there are a number of trout lakes locally where a day licence may be purchased. Further afield is the unique Fut...
How to get there
Limoges and Poitiers airports are both around a one hour drive. La Rochelle and Bordeaux are around a 2 hour drive. All airports offer car hire, which can be prebooked. Travelling by the Eurotunnel shuttle is my preferred route, and the journey from Calais is a very easy drive as it is almost all dual carriageway. I usually make an overnight stop in Calais, enabling the purchase of last minute low duty, good value wine etc. Gace is around halfway and I like to stay at the Etoile d'Or which serves an excellent evening meal (not Sundays/Mondays). Other ports eg Cherbourg or Caen are nearer, but have not been used by me. A train to Paris and onwards to Angouleme can be completed by taxi or by bus.
