A beautiful villa on the west coast of Barbados, set within two acres of tropical gardens and just a one-minute stroll to the stunning Gibbes Beach. *The Space* Gibbes Great House is truly unique - a detached, single-storey and lovingly maintained plantation house set within its own two acres of lush and tranquil grounds on the ‘Platinum Coast’ of Barbados. As the gates open off the coast road and you sweep up the drive past the lily pond and the 18th-century cannon that guards the entrance to the property, the first thing that will strike you about Gibbes Great House is the distinctive fan-shaped ironwork that surrounds the large front verandah, with its own bar and evening entertaining space. Climb the grand steps and walk through the verandah and you will be transported back in time to a Barbados of a century ago. The open plan living and dining space follow an ancient time-honoured tradition of West Indian plantation house design with mahogany floors throughout the entire property. Crystal chandeliers and ceiling fans adorn the ceiling, antique mahogany furniture line the thick coral walls and a ten-seat dining table invites scenes of hearty breakfasts or candlelit dinner parties. Walk past the cabinets filled with the owners' collection of Barbadian memorabilia into the planter's room. In here the traditional Caribbean rattan furniture and British fabrics give the opportunity to relax with either the benefit of flat-screen television with a host of satellite channels or the perfectly in-tune 1940s Kemble tropical upright piano, with beautiful views across the gardens to the pool area. Gibbes House has four bedrooms situated to the side and rear of the property, all with beautiful views of the tropical gardens. Bedroom 1 consists of a Super King size double bed with extensive wardrobe space. Bedrooms 2 and 3 are also equipped with wardrobes and drawer space, but consist of two twin beds in each (Bedroom 2 can upon request, be made into a King size depending on guest requirements). Bedroom 4 consists of a standard double bed with plenty of storage for holiday clothes. Each bedroom has its own ensuite shower room and is fully air-conditioned, Bedroom 2 also has a bath. The kitchen at Gibbes House is an ‘institution’ presided over by the wonderful cook and housekeeper Cordelle who has worked at the property for almost 20 years. Outside of quarantine period, the house cook can provide you with a bespoke half menu of pretty much anything you request, specialising though of course in classic Barbadian cuisine. Cordelle's attention to detail is second to none, and you are guaranteed to return home feeling entirely relaxed and well catered for. The kitchen is also fully fitted with all appliances for self-catering, with all equipment and utility costs included. Outside of quarantine requirements (where no staff may attend during your quarantined stay), maid and laundry service are offered as standard. A complimentary night watchman will be on hand each night of your stay at Gibbes House. Note that a 24hr watchman is required for anyone needing to quarantine (you are unable to leave the property until you receive your second clear test). The house boasts its own large swimming pool and sun terrace and is perfectly located for island exploring, water sports on the beach or just as a complete hideaway for ultimate relaxation. Gibbes House has exclusive use of a swimming pool within the grounds, as well as an extensive outside area, in which guests can simply just relax and enjoy at their leisure. Gibbs Beach (less than a 5-minute leisurely stroll away) is widely considered by many to be the best beach on the west coast of Barbados. One of the most unpopulated too, it is perfect for relaxing in a quiet and peaceful atmosphere under the warm West Indian sun. The crystal clear and incredibly calm waters are great for a soothing and relaxing swim. Alternatively, Mullins Beach just around the bay and is somewhat livelier and has a range of facilities to hire, from sun loungers to jet skis. *Other things to note* If you are required to quarantine, we will be able to pre-purchase groceries for you ahead of your arrival and stock the property for you. Due to the Government restrictions, we are unfortunately unable to provide chef or housekeeping services until you receive your clear second test. More

Let me say we initially chose Gibbes Great House because we potentially needed beds for 8+ adults, and Gibbes offers additional cottages (on grounds) with an additional pool. The second pool came in handy when the over-20s and the over-50s needed a little time apart....More
