About the neighbourhood
The Alentejo is an unspoilt paradise, home to a vast array of wildlife and birdlife including magnificent birds of prey. All regularly seen at Vale da Cegonha. Spring is lovely as wild flowers carpet the land along with the heady fragrance of cammomille. If you love 'the wild' then you'll love it here!
The Alentejo is also famous for its food and wines. There are a number of excellent local restaurants. The black pig (preto porco) is superb and many nearby vineyards offer tasting tours as well as traditional meals.
Getting around
The lower Alentejo is spectacular and large. The roads are relatively traffic free so getting around by car is easy.
Alternatively you could take a day trip to Lisbon, by train. Funcheira station is only 10 minutes away.
Closer to home, Ourique has an excellent and inexpensive taxi service. So if you're planning to visit one of the nearby restaurants, no-one has to drive.

How to get there
Airport: Faro: 90.0 km
Railway: Funcheira: 5.0 km
Whether you come north from Faro or south from Lisbon you will approach Ourique from the IC1.
Leave the IC1 when you see the large sign for Odemira and Ourique (not before).
At the top of the slip road turn left (away from Ourique town).

At the roundabout continue straight ahead. (Pingo Doce supermarket will be on your left)
After approx 6 km, look for the 50 km marker stone on the left side of the road, plus a bus stop and 2 large green rubbish bins.
Turn left up the track and Vale da Cegonha will be on your right, after approx. 800 m.
We have ample parking on site, for guests.
