About the neighbourhood
Rosedale is home to Rosedale Abbey, a Cistercian Priory founded in 1158 and now just a staircase, sundial and single stone pillar. The Priory was founded by a small group of nuns who are credited with the first commercial sheep farm in the area. Enjoy the wonderful views off Rosedale Chimney Bank, a very steep section of road between Rosedale and Hutton le Hole, and visit the Calcinning Kilns. Hutton le hole where you can visit Ryedale Folk Museum, Yorkshire’s leading open air museum with 13 historic buildings and local art and crafts on view in the reception gallery. Lastingham is a very petty village on the edge of Rosedale Moor. Visit the historic Abbey and enjoy some food at the Blacksmith’s Arms, just one of the great pubs in the area.
Getting around
As a rural property you will need a car or bike to get about the area. There are lots of interesting places on the moors or forests to explore and enjoy a scenic walk or cycle ride. There is the North York Moors Railway from Pickering to Whitby if you prefer a more relaxed view of the moors.
