One T-towel provided and cleaning products Tea, coffee, milk and biscuits provided. Selection of board games. BBQ, garden chairs and clothes dryer in adjoining storeroom Electricity via a £1 coin meter - the first £5 per week is free Open green play area to front of chalet with personal bench outside Keycode entry for security. Just a quarter of a mile from the Isle of Wight Zoo with their infamous tigers and Casper and Frosty the White Lions, and within easy walking distance (approx 1 mile) along the flat esplanade to Sandown town and pier amusements. By walking a further mile and a half along the revetment - past the comically named beachhuts and a couple of cafés - you reach Shanklin a beautiful little town with many shops (including nine charity shops which all have to compete to offer you the best bargain). Visit the popular and often photographed Shanklin Old Village with its quaint cottages and inns before getting the bus back to the chalet. There is a bus stop right outside the site entrance (Route number 8) There are many places to visit on the island but if you take your car please be aware of the Parking Enforcement Oficers - they are very keen. Also you may need some patience as there are extensive but much needed road repairs taking place across the island so you might get caught up in some queues - but this gives you a chance to enjoy some of the ambience of the island. You can find out more about the bus routes, special ticketss and timetables on the internet at island buses (all one word).info. More

About the neighbourhood
The chalet site is halfway up Culver Down just a mile from the centre of Sandown where there are a number of shops, restaurants and take-aways.The Isle of Wight Zoo and Dinosaur Island attractions are just a few hundred yards away and there is a child friendly safe sandy beach within easy walking distance just 3 mins walk. Sandown has a park with numerous items of play equipment and an 'Adult' outdoor gym. There is crazy golf and puitch and putt golf. The Heights Leisure Centre with its extensive gym and two swimming pools is just a mile away, and there is a medical centre on the same site. There is a Tesco Extra about 4 miles away and a Morrisons and new Aldi in Lake, and a Lidl and Co-op in Shanklin.
Getting around
The scenery of the island makes it a perfect place for walking, and indeed there are walking festivals in May and October. For the very fit there is also an October cycling festival. The southern Vectis Bus service covers the island with major hubs in Ryde and Newport. They sell a variety of special tickets and the Island Breezer Tours are an ideal way to see the island. The number 8 bus stops right outside the chalet site. There is a train service between Shanklin and Ryde, and as well as stopping at Lake, Sandown and Brading, from Easter - Oct this links with the Steam railway at Smallbrook Junction. Although a car enables a sense of independence for families, for a couple or individual it is not necessary with buses running everywhere.
