Welcome to the Old Stone “Hobogîte” - A Quiet Rural Getaway for two - Free WiFi - EXCLUSIVE use of 30 sq.m. Pool and an acre of Gardens...

While our lovely Charentais barn was being renovated, we often camped out in an old stone outhouse - our daughter affectionately christened this the Hobo house, and the name has stuck. It was so nice in this friendly little cottage that we decided to convert it, and rent it out as a gîte - but only when there's no-one in the barn. This is how you will have the whole acre of gardens - and the pool (from May to September) - entirely to yourselves.

This is a true get-away-from-it-all escape; if you see 3 cars a day passing on the small road at the end of the drive, you should feel honoured! You are however just 5km away from the N10 motorway, and 6km from the local town of Ruffec and the Charente...

Set in a rural hamlet but close to Ruffec with all amenities. Definitely low season in mid October in this area. Quiet roads for cycling and good weather. Best equipped cottage we have ever stayed in.A real home from home. Welcome food pack, towels, bed ready made.Even washing up liquid & toilet paper!

Management response:

Thank you indeed for your lovely review of your stay in The Hobogite, and we were really pleased to hear how much you enjoyed your stay with us. We were especially happy to hear that you liked the Welcome Pack so much - thanks!

If there was only one word to describe the hobogite it would be "Amazing". A beautiful gite, spotlessly clean with a well equipped kitchen, and a lovely welcome hamper. It's very rural, which we loved as it was so peaceful. Pool is welcoming in the warm weather. We shall return in 2018, and we don't usually return to the same...

Management response:

Thank you very much for your "amazing" review! We really appreciate your kind comments, and we look forward to welcoming you you back again next year.

Beautiful gite in a lovely location. Absolutely every home comfort has been thought of and addressed. The grounds are lovely, full of wildlife and the pool was a godsend in the very hot temperatures we were lucky enough to enjoy. All in all we couldn't fault it. many thanks to Rob and Lene and special thanks to Bill for all...

Management response:

Thanks very much for writing this review, and we were specially pleased to hear how much you enjoyed all the wildlife in and around the grounds. It's great to hear how much pleasure you got out of the pool during such a hot time of the year, and that you found the whole holiday such a positive experience; we hope...

About the neighbourhood
This is a real rural retreat for two, far away from the crowds - if you see 3 cars a day passing on the small road at the end of the drive, you should feel honoured! A car is essential, but you are just 5km away from the N10 motorway - and, within 6km or so, you will also find the local Market Town of Ruffec with its twice-weekly market, and all the restaurants, local shops and supermarkets you could want - as well, of course, as the Charente River for swimming, canoeing, fine dining, or simply sitting and enjoying it all.
Car advised
How to get there
Airport: Poitiers / Bordeaux: 70.0 km
Railway: Angoulême: 50.0 km
Ferry: Calais / St-Malo: 400.0 km
The drive from Calais is a doddle! Just over 400 miles on the motorway but, as none of these motorways heads either to or from Paris, there is very little traffic on them so, even in August, the drive is a pleasure. Ryanair and Easyjet provide low-cost flights to Poitiers, La Rochelle, Limoges, etc., and the car-hire at the airports is very reasonably priced if you choose to leave the car at home.
