Collect walnuts, hazelnuts, apples and pears from the garden in September and October. The character cottage features original features retained by the master-builder. There is a Charentais fireplace, a Charentais window, and an original sink used by the farmhands probably dating from 1851. The Godin wood-burner is an antique, probably dating from the 1920’s. We provide the wood for you, and help you to light it if you are a novice! Electric heating is provided so that you can keep warm 24/7. Bedrooms A beautiful 18th century oak staircase sweeps grandly from the open-plan ground floor to the two carpeted double bedrooms upstairs. Each bedroom has its own en-suite shower room. The first bedroom has a double bed, the second bedroom has two single beds. A hair dryer is provided. UK/European adaptor plugs are also provided. Kitchen The newly refurbished kitchen area has a gas oven, a dish-washer (ample crockery and cutlery will help you to fill it up), a washing machine, (rotary drier outside) microwave and tall Miele fridge/freezer. A great selection of small appliances are here too, a liquidiser, small food processor, baking tins etc. For weekly guests I provide a selection of washing products, sauces, spices and many small items so that you won’t need to make unnecessary purchases. If there is anything you are missing, you can simply borrow from us! We are right next door. UK/European adaptor plugs are also provided. Welcome pack As you arrive, there will be a selection of groceries in the fridge. Tea, coffee, butter, milk, eggs, bread, cheese and wine! If you have any special requests, just give me some notice. If you wish, at your own expense, you can have Waitrose/Tesco/ASDA shopping delivered here, but I do need a month's notice from you to get it delivered here at the right time. Just discuss it with me and I will explain how we get UK shopping deliveries here. Dining There is a round, pine dining room table that can extend when you need more room. You may find that most meals are eaten outside. Sun-shades are provided. Wi-Fi and TV The superb wi-fi in the gîte will enable you to keep in touch with your Internet connections, and there is a good mobile phone signal here too. The TV has a UK Sky Freeview card so you can giggle at the UK weather back home, and keep up with your favourite programmes. Parking There is ample parking space for 2-3 cars on the pebble drive, right next to the gîte. Further parking space is available on the front lawn. Outside space A seating area is provided at the front of the gîte, on the south side of the house, and also at the back of the cottage overlooking the large garden, and watch the woodpeckers, the buzzards and many other birds. Pets are welcome here. Wheelchair-suitability:- The gîte is not really suitable for wheelchairs. There is no downstairs bathroom, no downstairs beds, and the patio at the back of the house, and the drive to the house, are covered with smooth beach-pebbles.More

About the neighbourhood
Where to go and what to see.... There are many good restaurants – some near and some farther away. You will be delighted with the quality of the food offered for lunch and evening meals. Many restaurants serve a freshly cooked healthy 3-course lunch starting strictly at 12pm-1pm for £12.50-£15. Most French working people rely on these restaurants and the food is really good. We can provide you with a list (and a map) There are many interesting places to visit. Angouleme is a historic town an hour away in the car, and Poitiers is about one and a half hours away. There are many chateaux some near and some far. Champagne Mouton is our nearest small town, about 30 minutes away, with a 24-hour cash-point, petrol garages and a really nice Carrefour mini-supermarket. There is a farmer's market...
