With Edinburgh just 40 minutes away and Holy Island, the castles of Bamburgh and Alnwick all within 45/55 mins drive, endless sandy beaches and golf courses on the doorstep, Oldhamstocks Cottage could not be better positioned for a fun, yet peaceful holiday. Set in a pretty courtyard, this charming, detached, converted Georgian stone stable cottage dating back to the 1800s, is surrounded by the rolling Lammermuir Hills within the tiny ancient village of Oldhamstocks. The cottage has a cosy open coal fire in the living room and views of the hills around. The golf options are truly superb with 19 renowned golf courses within 30 minutes drive. Oldhamstocks is just 10 minutes from the beach or Dunbar railway station, from where visitors can easily take the train to Edinburgh (22 minutes). ...With Edinburgh just 40 minutes away and Holy Island, the castles of Bamburgh and Alnwick all within 45/55 mins drive, endless sandy beaches and golf courses on the doorstep, Oldhamstocks Cottage could not be better positioned for a fun, yet peaceful holiday. Interaction with guests
Neil (my husband) and I, our 3 cheeky children and lovable labrador live next door to the cottage. We love meeting new people, particularly international visitors. We like all our guests to treat the cottage as if it were their own home. We will do everything we can to try and make sure you have a brilliant time at Oldhamstocks Cottage. Many of our visitors come back year after year so if you're new to the area we can try and advise you on what to do (before you come) or when you're here depending on the interests, ages, mobility of your party. Conversely we are very happy to leave you completely alone to relax and switch off.

This was a very nice cottage, spotlessly clean and with a very welcome Welcome Pack containing the basics for our first breakfast! Thank you, Olivia for making us feel so at-home.

About the neighbourhood
The name ‘Oldhamstocks’ (pronounced Oldhamstocks) is said to have come from an Anglo-Saxon source: ‘Ald ham stoc’ which means an old home or dwelling. The alternative theory is that it comes from the Gaelic ‘Altan’ and ‘Stotan’ meaning a small burn and tree trunks. Oldhamstocks is said to be one of East Lothian’s ‘hidden villages’ and certainly that is the impression given as you reach the Cocket Hat at the top of the Smiddy Brae and wonder where the village is. The village consists of a single row of houses and at its West end, grouped round the green, are the former school and schoolhouse, the parish church and its manse, the market cross and a stone well for drinking water. The village smithy remains at the East end and the corn mill, now a house, is down by the burn. The site of the...
