Our cottages are well situated for easy access (20 minutes) to Hull City of Culture, 2017 and to discover the secrets of the Yorkshire Wolds. With a countryside location, coast, towns such as Beverley and and cities of Hull & York all within easy striking distance. Bay Tree Cottage is a great get away for couples or indeed for people taking a break on their own, 'A little slice of heaven', ideal for a relaxing weekend/midweek break for 2, and also as a homely work base for Hull...... We have had many lovely remarks about Bay Tree in our visitors book. We are proud to say that ALL our reviews are 5*, here is a taste of what our customers say: '110% outstanding',..... 'Delightful, cosy cottage',.... 'A superb escape to the country in an amazing cottage',.....'Absolute pleasure to stay in!',..... 'Beautifully quaint cottage in perfect surroundings'. BAY TREE cottage is situated on the quiet street of Nordham, North Cave, and was originally one of the gardener's cottages to Fawley House. The off street parking leads to the sunny walled courtyard garden ideal to relax on the sunbeds, read on the bench or eat at the table under the Bay Tree. The Bay Tree is outside the external door which leads to the kitchen and sitting/dining room beyond. The kitchen is beamed and the sitting room is characterful with traditional fireplace and fireside cupboards. A gas fire and central heating make the cottage toasty when required. Upstairs there is a large sunny bathroom and a king sized bed in the bedroom, with characterful original fireplace with a log & cone decoration. The window looks onto the street of Nordham and a stone wall with beautiful Magnolia tree. The extensive gardens to the main house have fruit and vegetable growing areas, and when available and in season, we offer you a fresh veg basket during your stay.(Fawley House Garden is open for the National Garden Scheme and it is possible to see the gardens during your stay by arranging with Louise when she is at home: you will be supporting the nursing and caring charities NGS supports. If our smaller 'singles/couples cottage' is taken, we are happy to take bookings for just one or two people in Horseshoe, with a discount for reduced occupancy. Horseshoe can actually sleep up to 7, with 2 extra beds (£30/ extra bed), and it can also be linked to Bay Tree, to sleep up to 9: useful to know for wedding parties, family celebrations and business events. In March 2014, 2016 & 2017 our Nordham Cottages entry to the East Yorkshire Tourism awards was shortlisted, and we were given a place as a finalist for the Remarkable Self Catering Provider category, something we are really proud of. The cottage is assessed as 4* by Quality in Tourism, and we work hard to retain our star rating, striving to offer our customers a welcoming home where everything works & a relaxing and comfortable haven. We like to involve our visitors by asking for their suggestions: there are very few of those suggestions we have not acted upon. Our visitor reviews and our visitors book comments make us smile :) spurring us on, and its good to know we have satisfied customers. What's available in the village? A village shop/post office, (playground, if you have a toddler with you), and wetlands bird sanctuary, all only a 5 minute walk away:The village offers the shop/post office- perfect for the things you forgot to bring like milk, butter, bread, papers or even wine; and there's a really good fruit and veg stand at the end of the road and veg shop 'Walkers' on the edge of the village. There's the White Hart pub with really excellent Fish & Chips next door at The Catch. We even have a special occasion ladies dress boutique & two ladies hairdressers. :The North Cave Wetlands' are at the end of the our road for spectacular wading bird life, including Avocets. Lovely countryside from the door with 'destination' walks - the Gastro Pub at Hotham (30 mins) and also Drewtons Farm Shop for a delicious award winning breakfast/lunch/afternoon tea. If you want to work up a real appetite you could walk (1 hour) to the Star at Sancton, which if renowned for its excellent food, open for lunches and evening meals, and taxi back if the light beats you.If you just want a Chinese to bring back to the cottage, there's one at Newport, 5 minutes away in the car. There's an excellent small supermarket, selling local meats and local bakery products at South Cave, a butchers, five minutes drive away. South Cave also has the Fox and Coney Pub, The Gallery (Italian) Restaurant, a chemist, gift shops, and Antiques. The bigger supermarkets, are only 15 minutes away at Market Weighton and Brough.Plenty to do: There are two plant Nurseries in the village and Fawley House garden to visit; Bird watching; Kayaking on a Saturday; Walking and great cycling. Indoor bowls is offered in the winter months. Riding, Clay Shooting & Motor Cross Track 5/10 minutes away. We even have a Dive centre! There's the very popular Drewton's Farm Shop to visit which has produce, wine, gifts and a great restaurant (a customer favourite) and the Bird of Prey Centre only 5 minutes away, if that. If you like Sunday Markets, there is also 'North Cave Car Boot' which is open from 7.30-1pm. Great bacon sandwiches at the Wild Bird Café on a morning, so you could do a round trip by the Wetlands down Dryham Lane and left at the end which brings you out eventually near the Market. Enjoy the clean fresh air and the peaceful Wolds countryside famed by Hockney. Discover the nearby towns and cities such as Beverley, Hull and York along with many others and explore the East Yorkshire coastline, which varies from white chalk cliffs to long sandy beaches stretching from Flamborough Head to Spurn Point. Suggestions for visits: - The Deep in Hull; Jorvik Viking Centre in York; North York Moors National Park; Royal Armories in Leeds; Burton Agnes Hall & Gardens & Bridlington, or Sledmere House & Gardens & Driffield; the Yorkshire Sculpture Park at Wakefield.Six full, 'fun packed' days, and Bay Tree Cottage is ideally located to be able to do them all.Visit the dramatic chalk cliffs at Bempton with world renowned bird-life to see. Walk along the sandy beaches at Bridlington, Hornsea and beyond. After a good day out, return to a relaxing, well equipped home and if the weather is good, light the log barbecue and enjoy an evening outdoors. If you'd rather have a cosy night inside, light the fire and snuggle in with a film and a bottle of wine. WHAT’S ON IN THE AREA? See our areas tourism website: VHEY. If you are looking for a cottage to be able to enjoy the CYCLING of the Wolds and Vale of York. Look no further! TOUR DE YORKSHIRE came this way taking in some steep inclines. We have some testing cycle rides around here on quiet roads, enjoying the best of the Wolds, and we are happy to share our knowledge of local cycling. We have 'cycle lock up' so your bikes are safe. If WALKING is your thing, there are some excellent walks from the door, with 2 longer walks created by leading walking journalist Fiona Barltrop who stayed at Horseshoe cottage in October last year. Another long walk was created for us by some keen walkers who stayed a while ago. Keen walkers ourselves, we also have a list of walks we have done with friends, with a good pub lunch to take a break! There are many shorter walks known to us, and we have a walking section in our info file for enthusiasts. Bay Tree Cottage is only 2 minutes from the motorway which will take you to Leeds and Harrogate with ease, and only 45 minutes from York on the A1079. The cottage is only 20 minutes from Hull and the ferry terminals for North Sea Ferries, and 30 minutes from Humberside airport.More
