About the neighbourhood
For such a small part of Scotland, there is an amazing contrast in the landscape . The Northern part of Cowal is rugged and remote, with Loch Ech is surely one of the most stunningly picturesque stretches of water in Scotland. Cowal's only major town, Dunoon, hosts little independant shops. We're also lucky enough to have the amazing historic botanical gardens walking distance from the Lodge.
A short drive away is a coastline indented with sea lochs and peppered with many lively small communities 'Argyll's Secret Coast', a remote and beautiful stretch of Cowal Coastline taking in the spectacular Kyles of Bute and the picturesque town of Tighnabruaich.

This whole area is great for outdoor activities, especially sailing, as well as excellent hospitality, yet is...
Getting around
For exploring a car is our best option. Getting to the lodge involves taking a ferry from Greenock quay. The ferries run frequently and there is no need to book in advance. The journey across the water only takes 20 minutes, but you feel a million miles away, a great start to your holiday!
Car advised
How to get there
Airport: Glasgow: 60.0 km
Railway: Gourock: 15.0 km
Ferry: Hunters Quay ( ferry from Gourock): 10.0 km
Cowal can be accessed by sea or road. Kick start your holiday by taking the short ferry across the Clyde from Gourock , no need to book as the ferry runs regularly and tickets can be bought on board. Or if you prefer to travel by road arrive via the Scenic 'Rest and Be Thankful'- take the Erskine bridge and then the beautiful scenic route by the A82 by Loch Lomond side north to Tarbet, then the A83 to Arrochar, either turning off for Lochgoilhead or continuing through Glen Kinglas and turning off at Cairndow
