About the neighbourhood
Ballater and Aboyne are two Highland market towns and bridging points, situated on the River Dee to service the hinterlands of both towns. Dinnet is a crossroads and bridging point over the Dee.
In former times Aboyne and Ballater were serviced by a railway and bus terminals, cattle market, banking and shopping, bakeries and health centres, with retail outlets for tourists and locals alike.
Braemar, Aboyne and other towns in the area host Highland Games to challlenge locals and touring athletes, dancers and bagpipe players, they happen once a year in each venue and are advertised locally, nationally and on the internet.
Activities offered in the area are walks, riding, trekking, fishing, (salmon, brown and rainbow trout also coarse), shooting, stalking, distilleries, Balmoral Castle, skiing, historic Castles, gardens, etc.
