Holiday Rental House
Lapradelle is simply a very beautiful place. We say it's 'for romantics only', for lovers of the countryside, of France profonde, of village life, of history, of fauna and flora – or of lazing on the roof terrace enjoying the view under a warm sun. You enter the house through the hallway. To your right is one of the two twin bedrooms, followed by the shower room with shower cubicle, basin and w.c. You progress to a small kitchenette and the door into the garden. Next to the kitchenette and tucked away at the back of the house is the small single bedroom, a nice little snuggery perhaps for a youngster with independent leanings! On the first floor are your double bedroom and one twin bedroom, the bathroom with bath, wc and shower cubicle, and the separate w.c. The kitchen is well equipped and next to a 'pantry' with small freezer. You will find all the essentials – toaster, microwave, 4-ring electric cooker, washing-machine, dish-washer, fridge and all utensils..... The dining area seats seven comfortably. French doors open onto the balcony where you get the same view as the roof terrace above. It is lovely to take your morning croissants and coffee on the balcony before the others have risen! Your large living-room is on the top, second floor with telephone, DVD and cassette player, hundreds of books in English, wifi, internet access and very comfortable seating. French doors take you out onto the wide roof terrace which offers this fabulous view over the garden, the river, the village and the castle to the mountains beyond. The little tourist train slowly crosses the viaduct in front of you. 'Dull would he be of soul who could pass by...' indeed – the sight lifts the spirit and reminds you how beautiful the world is. Few people seem to use the garden since the roof terrace and balcony are such a draw. You cross a tiled patio to the grassed garden which is safe for children. There are easy chairs and tables on the patio. From the garden you look at the river below and the village on the other side. The house is certainly interesting and unusual, and it attracts regular 'returnees' every year. We have four properties in the Languedoc and for one of us this house is the favourite. It is set well away from the main road which lies beyond your garden, the river, the tourist train and La Mairie. Parking is very easy at the end of your street, perhaps thirty yards away. You can drop passengers and luggage at your front door and then drive round to the parking area. Parking has generated no visitors' complaints over twenty years. From the parking area there is a narrow road which takes you down to the river and up into Lapradelle itself, very reminiscent of Yorkshire countryside. You will not be disappointed, I assure you. The house offers a lot of possibilities to be together or to be alone. It is very well equipped with great taste and on three floors. We felt comfortable there as soon as we arrived. It is located neither too far from the big cities...More

The location is fabulous. You have direct views of the mountains and Chateau Puilarens, especially from the upper terrace which commands a breath-taking panoramic view. The house is large and very well equipped. It feels like a home and not a 'holiday rental'. There were...More

About the neighbourhood
The Commune of Lapradelle/Puilaurens lies in a valley surrounded by Pyrenean foothills. The main road from Perpignan to Quillan runs through the village, but your house is set well back from the road in the adjacent hamlet of Lavagnac. It is a five/ten minute walk from the house to the shops for your morning croissants. In Lapradelle itself, there is a general store and a restaurant. Other shops may appear during the summer and then disappear to return the following year. Your street, Rue du Cabanot, turns into a footpath after 100 yards or so, and from there it is a lovely walk down the valley to Caudiès, stop for a drink and then return through forest paths on the other side. At the near end of the street there is a horse trough/fountain facing the wide parking area, about 30 yards ...
Getting around
You will need a car. The house travel journal includes visitors' recommendations of drives, short and long, restaurants, places to visit etc. We hope you will add your own experiences.
