The historic capital city of Valletta is a cultural gem packed with baroque churches, museums, auberges and other architectural masterpieces. Built by the Grand Master La Vallette following his victory over the Ottomans in the Great Siege of 1565, this city is a monument to the splendour of a bygone age when the aristocratic order of the Knights of St John ruled the island of Malta. Valletta is alive with bars, restaurants and cafe's and there is enough culture to keep the keenest vulture occupied for several holidays. However, the rest of Malta is also well worth exploring and can be reached easily from Valletta either by car or by bus (the main bus station is in Valletta). The island is small and nowhere is more than a 20 minute drive from Valletta. So you have finished exploring the walled cities of Valletta and Mdina, the prehistoric sites of Hagar Qim and Mnajdra and the numerous baroque churches, there are plenty of rocky and sandy beaches to cool off at within easy reach.More

This apartment is spectacularly located over looking the Grand Harbour - lovely size & feel with two french doors opening onto a small balcony over looking the Harbour. However the decoration and furnishings are dated & there is a general lack of care and attention...More

We have recently returned from a weeks holiday in Valletta, where we stayed in the Captains Suite. The apartment is perfect in every way, the photos don’t do it justice. It is five minutes walk (up steps) to the centre of the city, but is...More

Spectacular view to Grand Harbour. There is always something going on on the bay: Big passenger ships and cargo ships come and go and small tourist boats are cruising around Valletta. Some restaurants and cafees are just around the corner and Valletta’s main shopping street...More

Characterful apartment overlooking Grand Harbour and within a few minutes' walk of just about everything (notable exception: Sliema Ferry Terminal). High ceilings, well equipped - washing machine and dryer, full kitchen, British tv available, Wi-Fi - but not air-conditioned. Could have benefited from an extra...More

Great location, easy to walk anywhere in Valletta. Plenty of restaurants & bars nearby & the main bus station is a few minutes walk away, from where you can get anywhere in Malta. Lovely spacious apartment with a spectacular view of the Grand Harbour.

Additional amenities & feature info
It is not only the view that makes the Captain's suite unique. Although recently converted, historic features have been maintained and the house boast luxuriously high ceilings supported by long wooden beams and traditional painted tile floors. Being on the water's edge the house also enjoys a pleasant Mediterranean breeze. Although kitted out with all the mod cons, the furniture has been carefully sourced from markets and antique shops across the islands and is traditional and in-keeping with this historic townhouse. The bathroom is classically decorated with marble floors and the kitchen is well equipped and overlooks the quiet and picturesque steps of Battery street.

About the neighbourhood
Valletta is the World Heritage City capital of Malta. It is a baroque masterpiece and was built in the 16th century by the crusading order of St John. The city is named after La Vallette, the Grand Master of the order who commissioned the building of this fortified city following the victory of the Knights of St John over their Ottoman adversaries in the Great Siege of 1565. The Cathedral of St John's with Caravaggio's world famous masterpiece, the old Palace of the Grand Master with its armoury and tapestries and the cultural centre in St John's Cavalier are all on your doorstep and well worth visiting.
How to get there
Airmalta, Easyjet and Ryan Air all have regular flights to Malta. Valletta is about 10 minutes away from the airport by bus (which regularly run directly to Valletta) or taxi. A taxi will cost EURO 15/20. If you want to hire a car, I suggest you get in touch with Percius Car Hire (www.percius.com), which has been long established and is reliable. It is also a good idea to book a taxi through them if you do not hire a car. As always in the Med, if you take a taxi from the taxi stand at the airport make sure you agree on the price before you embark!
