Overview The Old Fort, Historic Estate is the only fully restored historic plantation in St. Vincent and the Grenadines dating back to the eighteenth-century when the French first started settling the West Indies. Set high atop Mt. Pleasant with an estate that stretches all the way down to the Caribbean Sea, it features acres of orchards and views to beat anything you would find out on the open ocean. Its lush grounds are covered in traveller’s palms, breadfruit, tamarind, banana and mango trees, surrounding one of the most beautiful pools in the world, happily slip sliding its watery way over the edge. Upon discovering the property in 1978 the owners began a lengthy restoration of the estate in the original French Colonial style, using timber from local forests and the same stone as that...Overview The Old Fort, Historic Estate is the only fully restored historic plantation in St. Upon discovering the property in 1978 the owners began a lengthy restoration of the estate in the original French Colonial style, using timber from local forests and the same stone as that of the ruins. Over three decades it has been run as a special intimate estate with eight low-key luxury rooms, six in the reconstructed plantation house and two built within the foundation of an ancient sugar mill (which can be rented separately), whereas the property would then accommodate up to 19 comfortably. Recommended over years by numerous international media, it has been transformed into the kind of property you never would want to leave! Description of the Historic Plantation Long ago, in the 18th century or even earlier, the Historic Plantation was used as the main factory where crops were processed. This building has been completely rebuilt using the same local stone, which was once part of the property. It forms the centre of this beautiful undisturbed estate that consists of several comfortable and uniquely styled low-key luxury suites. On the bottom floor, just inside two large arched doors, is the large banquet style kitchen from where the chef will prepare delicious meals using only the freshest ingredients sourced locally. Just in front of the kitchen is a large spacious lounge with a grand fireplace and then the large dining area that stretches outward towards the terrace. An outside bar is located just above the grand pool area with various beautiful outside sitting areas & patios that surround it. From this location one can enjoy gazing at the stunning vistas that stretch out before you, across to Mustique and down all the Grenadine Islands out towards Grenada. The views are awe inspiring and span over 180 degrees overlooking both the Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea. The grand pool area consists of an infinity edge and waterfall, a convenient shallow kids area, and a natural pebbled grotto with various relaxation areas. It has been partly covered by two spacious cabanas to help one relax in the shade and escape the hot Caribbean sun. The Historic Plantation consists of numerous comfortable sitting areas, terraces and balconies that are surrounded by large beautiful gardens with their numerous species of international as well as local plants and trees. The gardens itself span over four acres, larger than all rental properties on the island, whilst the location faces East, South and West making it extremely cool and breezy. The entire estate is sized over 30 acres with trails that leads one down to a cliff that is located just above the ocean. They are ideal for nature lovers that enjoy hikes and for those that enjoy the many colours of magnificent sunsets. Description of the Sugar House (additional accommodation) This new grand property is set within the historic sugar mill, which used to be in operation hundreds of years ago. It is only a short distance from the Historic Plantation all forming a part of the same grand estate. It has two beautiful suites, which combine the many historic elements together with modern living. It also has its own custom built kitchen / bar which sits in the middle of a large round open-concept living area with a large dining table, daybed and sitting area.

Caribbean Herstory....
Eleven days..... into a six week Island hopping, Caribbean adventure i was lucky enough to reach Beautiful Bequia, my plan of 'non-action' was to spend time alone in a tranquil and peaceful setting and digest my journey so far ~ Arriving up at the Old Fort was a wonderful suprise of calm and serenity, almost surreal ~ I found myself unwinding at a pace that was most perfect yet quicker than anywhere else i had landed so far - I had just been magically taken to Heaven ~ an Earthly one. The Old Fort has a a wonderful energy ~ Freeing..... yet Grounding...... The Air is Fresh, Breeze Gentle and the Views (really are) Breathtaking. Sitting by the stunning pool or many of the other comfortable areas in the grounds and absorbing the surroundings your in, ignite your senses, reminding you exactly why you looked for and booked such a place. The rooms (as are the buildings) are Elegant and refined yet FORTuitously Strong - Clean and very comfortable you have space to swing yet feel contained and cosy in your own personal area. A home from home where you can relax, feel safe, have dinner and make plans to enjoy the Island and everything is has to offer ~ I will most definitely be back, in hope of embracing all of the above.....and the repetitive light & happy feelings that made me fall in love, with every second i spent there . A Visit ~ Strongly recommended.

PLEASANT STAFF, GREAT FOOD & FRESH LOCAL FOOD
The Old Fort has preserved the history of its property despite necessary renovations. The room was quite comfortable, the view was breathtaking and the pool and outdoors was quite relaxing and nothing but nature speaks to you. The staff and manager was quite friendly and available. They even assisted in planning and were present at tours to the neighboring islands, which was an experience one must have more than once in their lifetime....BOAT TRIP TO MAYREAU, TOBAGO CAYS was nothing but AWESOME. AMAZING local beaches that was so inviting - Princess Margaret and Lower Bay... Meals comprised of fresh and local ingredients.I WILL BE BACK SOON!

How to get there
At first glance, Bequia may seem remote and difficult to get to but do not let this deter you from visiting this wonderful island. There are several international airports throughout the Caribbean that serve as “gateways”, from where you can then connect with a local carrier to St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Some of the major international airports include Barbados, St. Lucia, Grenada, Trinidad and Martinique, all offering daily flights to St. Vincent from where you can then take a ferry to Bequia. Most visitors find it more convenient to fly into Barbados' Grantley Adams International Airport, as there are also direct flight connections to Bequia. You can book either a scheduled flight or a private charter (which is a particularly attractive option for a larger group) from Barbados to Bequia. Local carriers offer flight services to and from the island several times a day and will usually wait for your international connection in Barbados with their meet and greet service that takes you directly into the departure lounge without you having to claim your luggage first (Mustique Airways service personnel will collect and transfer it for you). Another popular route would be taking a flight into St. Vincent via any of the major Caribbean islands with Liat Airlines. From the airport, you can take a short taxi ride to the ferry terminal (approximately 5 - 10 minutes drive from the airport), followed by a ferry ride to Bequia (takes about an hour, port-to-port or 20 minutes with the fast ferry). The ferry is a wonderful experience and a number of visitors choose this way of getting to Bequia due to the beauty of the passage across from St. Vincent to Bequia. Please note that the ferry runs on a fixed schedule, which means that you should give yourself sufficient time to arrive in St. Vincent and get to the ferry terminal before the last ferry leaves to Bequia. You can also plan to spend a night in St. Vincent, which is very beautiful, or we can assist in arranging a powerboat that will pick you up and get you to Bequia.
