Torre de Maneys is two buildings linked by an enclosed bridge across the street. The main house in stone, dating from the XVI century, is believed to have been a former storage tower of the Castle of Óbidos.
The Space
In the tower are the common rooms of the house, distributed on two floors and an upper gallery (library). Due to topography, we can enter it from each floor and through various doors, thus enjoying a very particular relationship with the town. The dining room and kitchen are on the lower floor, and both extend outside, to the town square and street.
The upper floor has a room with a fireplace, it is my favourite reading place in winter evenings.

Most of the books are on the stacks on the upper gallery, ready to browse. There are fiction and poetry in portuguese, english, french and spanish, and a few in italian.
From this gallery you access the bridge to the other side of the house, where you will find most of the rooms.
Guest Access
Guests have access to the whole house. Breakfast is served in the dining room next to the kitchen or, if the weather allows it, on the terrace.
The terrace overlooks the town and the fields beyond. The pergola provides shade, and a place to sit and read or just relax. It is a good place for drinks, or for breakfast. There is a dumbwaiter to the kitchen.
The patio is one of the entrances to the house, and is a sheltered place to enjoy siting outside
In both of these places one can watch a good movie in a summer night.
Interaction with Guests
We offer breakfast and cleaning is included, on a daily basis. The owner may be staying on his own bedroom.
Other Things to Note
Circulation inside the house requires going up and down stairs, to go from one building to the other. It is an old building with open banisters, not appropriate for small children.

Do not stay here. The host is dishonest. We stayed there. She gave zero checkout instructions. We kept the place nice and tidy. She then turned around and wrote my first negative review I have ever had in my life, and refuses to discuss. There is a ZERO perfect chances feces was on the floor. Absolutely impossible. Yet, she wrote this in my review. This is absurd.

Maria and Fernando are Fantastic!!
This stay was truly the highlight of our trip. Beautiful old castle / home with so much history, and a much better value than the Pousada. They welcomed us to join them for celebrating processionals of Good Friday. My wife fell ill while staying there and Maria helped her to recover and accommodated us in so many ways!

Totally Wonderful
What a gem we found, thanks to the great reviews already received. We booked 2 rooms for a family visit to explore Obidos and this place added much to the rich experience. Our host, Maria was very welcoming and hugely knowledgable on the whole region. The painstaking and authentic restoration of this house made our stay very interesting. The place is very comfortable with great service and is smack in the middle of the old walled city, surrounded by restaurants, little shops and bars. Stay for a few days. You will love it!

About the neighbourhood
Óbidos is a unique place for spending a vacation. You can walk everywhere and get lost in the medieval streets, taking the time to observe the detailed architecture of its buildings, churches and squares. Every corner holds a potential surprise; the hilltop location, sloping topography, and surrounding castle walls, offer contrasting views of narrow streets against a backdrop of open territory beyond.
The many bookshops found inside the village (belonging to the Óbidos Literary Village Program) are a destination to explore for who is interested in discovering contemporary authors or old books long out of print.

Óbidos is 74 km North of Lisbon, reached by car, A8 highway. There is a direct bus (Rodoviária do Tejo, leaving from Campo Grande subway station in Lisbon) which stops near the Town entrance.
