Silves is a city of unique beauty, built over many centuries - occupied in turn by Phoenicians, Romans, Arabs and Christians - all of whom have left their visible marks. With a great historical heritage, the Castle (a military fortification unique in the country), the Medieval Bridge, Cathedral, Church of the Martyrs, Cruz de Portugal, Museum of Archaeology and its one of a kind Almohad cistern are all national landmarks.
