La Vallerie is set back from a quiet lane, with views across the Normandy countryside from all windows. Recently converted from a traditional Norman barn, it offers spacious accommodation with all modern comforts, including free wifi, UK television, underfloor heating on the ground floor and modern electric heaters upstairs. Outside there are sunny terraces and gardens and a large area of private parking. The English caretaker lives nearby and is happy to answer any questions that might arise. A main feature of the property is its suitability for those with reduced mobility, having wheelchair access front and back, and a downstairs bedroom with en-suite wet room and additional handrails. There is also a separate ground floor WC suitable for wheelchair users. Less than 10 minutes away is the small town of Balleroy, famous for its château, while the coast, with its fishing ports, long sandy beaches and wealth of D-Day memorabilia, is just a 35 minute drive. Also nearby is Bayeux, home of the famous tapestry, while Caen (45mins), offers all you would expect from the regional capital, including museums, a castle, and excellent shopping. The cottage is an excellent base from which to explore the area, and there are wonderful opportunities for walking or cycling on the doorstep. The Forest of Cerisy and a lakeside leisure centre are just a 5 minute drive away. If you fancy travelling further afield, Mont St Michel is only a 1½ hour drive, and there is a regular train service to Paris from Bayeux taking only 2 hours. Just north of Bayeux is the fishing village of Port-en-Bessin, where there's a traditional Sunday morning market on the quay. You will find lots of information in the gite to help you plan your holiday, including up-to-date leaflets on the numerous places to go and things to see. * Free wifi on site * Cot available on request * No smoking or pets in the property please More

Thanks for the review. I'm sorry that only one television wasn't to your expectation. The bedding and towel hire charge is a nominal laundry cost per change. You can have as many changes as you like during your stay. A washing machine and drying line...More

About the neighbourhood
The local village of Cormolain has a bakery and small grocery store, an excellent artisan butcher, post office and brocante. A few minutes further is the traditional Normandy market town of Caumont l'Eventé which has most amenities, as well as an underground cave attraction known as the 'Souterroscope'. Balleroy lies on the edge of the beautiful Foret de Cerisy. Its Chateau, designed by Mansart and now owned by the Forbes family of America, offers daily guided tours in English and French. Within the grounds are a Hot Air Balloon museum, a gift shop and a cafe overlooking the knot garden. The historic town of Bayeux is famous for its tapestry depicting the Norman Conquest and the Battle of Hastings. In July it hosts a Medieval Festival, with street markets and entertainers. Just north of...
