About the neighbourhood
Barvas is an ideal location for traveling around the Island. It is a great base for visiting Historical sights around the West Coast of the Island such as The Arnol Blackhouse, The Norse Mill, The Broch, and The Callanish Stones. It is great for going up North and enjoying the Butt of Lewis Lighthouse, cliff walks, Port of Ness beach and pier, and many more places. It is also 20 minutes away from Stornoway, the main town where the majority of shops, pubs, and restaurants are. There is also a small local shop/petrol station in Barvas for essentials. Barvas has a big machair area with a loch, salmon pool, and pebble shore.
Getting around
The most convenient way to travel around the island is by car. There are busses available but they are not very regular and won't take you to all the 'must-see' locations. You may want to cycle around the Hebrides too, however, we would recommend bringing having a car as well as bikes due to the unpredictable weather conditions and long distances. You are also able to rent a car for when you arrive to collect or get one when you arrive at either the ferry terminal and the airport.
