About the neighbourhood
The area around Tarset Tor has England’s clearest skies – making it the ideal spot from which to gaze at the stars. The Northumberland National Park is collaborating with Kielder Water and the Forest Park to become only the second International Dark Skies Park in Europe. The superb facility at Kielder Observatory has already become one of the most popular attractions in the region.
At Tarset Tor, visitors can explore the area on foot and by bike from a base that’s rooted in the countryside. The Tor has a wetland and wooded meadow to encourage the proliferation of flora and fauna; here and in the nearby Kielder Forest, there are lots of opportunities to observe the local wildlife, including ospreys, wild goats, red squirrels and deer.
Getting around
We are on bus routes to Kielder and to Newcastle but a car is the best way to travel about the area.
