In the heart of Windermere village, a five-minute walk from the train station, and from all the facilities, this is a very convenient and comfortable holiday base. Caxton Cottage is a cosy, detached house, with its own parking in front, and a small outside enclosed yard with seating area behind. It is a level stroll into the village with its lovely shops, restaurants and cafés, and then a pleasant walk down the hill into Bowness. A car isn’t necessary as there are many local walks; the lake and the path to local viewpoint. Orrest Head is only minutes away and there are excellent transport links to the wider Lake District. Kendal is 9 miles. Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter museums are within a 15-minute drive. Just a short walk from the shops and the ideal base for exploring The Lakes. The house was spotless and beautifully maintained. We had a great time and would love to visit again.

How to get there
Windermere is about 16 miles from the M6 motorway. From M6 junction 36, take the A590 towards Barrow, Windermere and Kendal. Then take the A591 and continue to follow the road signs to Windermere. As you come down the hill towards the town, you will see the main turning into the town on your left (signs to train station, tourist information etc.) Go past this turning and take the next road on the left, just after the pedestrian crossing. This is Elleray Road. Caxton Cottage is almost immediately on your left, the second gateway just afterRockside B&B which is on the corner. Parking is signposted in front of the house. The postcode of the property is LA23 1AG, but be warned that a Sat Nav will take you to the wrong location, so do not rely on this!
