Cottage -
3 Bedrooms , 2 Bathrooms , Sleeps 6
Coniston, Lake District, Cumbria, England
Good news everyone! Now with the promised new sofas! Yay! (See updated photos! ... and has much reduced cobwebs!!!) WiFi (although not super fast - see below) Blea Brows enjoys a fantastic secluded setting in Arthur Ransome's Swallows and Amazons country! It is a fabulous 'rustic' cottage for couples, families or group holidays, and a safe location for children and pets as it is set in the grounds of the big house, Brown Howe. It's homely and cosy, without being luxurious. It enjoys private lake access (with three other properties), just a few minutes stroll away (along a woodland path, which is very muddy when wet!), and is ideal for boating, picnics and exploring. Wild Cat island is within reach by boat, and the beautiful Blawith common is just down the road - ideal for exploring and with more lovely beaches to... Read more

Hey Julie, Mark and of course, Jack! Thank you so much for your lovely review. It's always very pleasing when people enjoy the cottage (and area!) as much as we do. Our cocker spaniel, Lily, absolutely loves swimming in the lake too. She, I'm sure,...More

About the neighbourhood
Coniston is a thriving village in the South Lakes, bordering Coniston Water and nestled beneath the 'Old Man' of Coniston - the largest of the Coniston fells. Coniston is well stocked with traditional shops including a butcher, post office, several pubs, cafe's and restaurants. In addtion to the beautiful surroundings, Coniston is home to the Ruskin Museum (also containing Donald Campbell memorabilia - of Bluebird fame) and down the road from Ruskin's mansion house - Brantwood. Round the cottage, there are wonderful places to explore including Beacon Fell and Beacon Tarn (find the geocache box and write a message in it!). There are lovely walks on Torver and Blawith Common and across the water at Parkamoor, in addition to the higher fells of the mighty Dow Crag, Old Man and Wetherlam. Not forgetting all the watersports that are available on Coniston Water itself. Of course, no visit would be complete without a trip to 'Wildcat' island - made famous by Arthur Ransome's Swallows and Amazons.
Getting around
There is a bus service that goes from Ulverston to Coniston x12 but it is quite a limited service. The nearest bus stop is Blawith which is about 1km walk away from the cottage.
