SEAVIEW COTTAGE, just off East St, is right in the very heart of Rye, literally seconds away from the High St and yet tucked away in a quiet little alley with stunning views over the Romney Marshes, the river Rother and on to the sea. The famous English artist Paul Nash lived in the house next door (you can see the blue plaque on the wall), E F Benson, author of the Mapp and Lucia books lived just round the corner. All Rye's famous sites are within very easy reach ~ St Mary's church is thirty yards away and Mermaid St, with its beautiful individual houses and cobbled street, Watchbell St with its timber framed houses and the ancient castle are all just a few minutes away. The cottage is a Victorian town house (or villa) built in the 1880's that has been completely modernised while still having some of its period features. As you walk through the door you will immediately see the superb views through the bay windows. The living room and bedroom are both east facing so the morning sun greets you in the morning as you wake up and warms you up while you have your breakfast. The cottage comfortably accommodates 2/4 adults/children. The modern white kitchen has a gas oven and hob with hood, integrated fridge/freezer, washing machine, microwave and table top dishwasher. The large worktop gives ample workspace for arranging ingredients for wonderful cooking creations! The spacious lounge has a working log/coal fireplace, solid wood dining table with 4 chairs, a sofa plus a comfortable sofa bed. Upstairs the period character bedroom has a pine kingsize bed with 2 pine bedside tables, 2 small fitted wardrobes, a pine chest of drawers and a TV with built in DVD player. There is also excellent Wi-Fi throughout and that is not so easy to find in Rye. The family bathroom with its floor to ceiling while pine panelling has a lovely big bath to soak in with an overhead shower, wc, sink, mirror and small dressing table. We welcome pets - though realistically one Labrador size dogs maximum - and there are plenty of walking areas nearby. There is also plenty of space for a pram or pushchair. GUEST ACCESS The lobby has shared access but the let has it's own front door - the owners live in a completely self-contained apartment downstairs. We are happy to provide basics such as milk, tea, coffee, bread & eggs. If you don't want to cook, there are cafes and quaint pubs within 30 seconds walk including the famous Simon the Pieman tearoom or Fletchers just by the church. THE NEIGHBOURHOOD Rye is quite simply a beautiful little gem with lots of old and quirky buildings, little alleyways, secluded green spaces and spectacular views. There are numerous pubs, restaurants, cafes & shops (clothes, books, jewellery, sweets, DIY in and around the High Street. There is a newsagent just at the bottom of East St while there is a good sized Jempsons (ex Budgens) supermarket next to the station which is open late six days a week, 6.00 am to 10.00 pm), and a local post office. GETTING AROUND Rye has a main line train station connecting to Brighton, Hastings, Ashford (for London and the Channel Tunnel). There is also a good local bus service for Winchelsea and Tenterden (two very pretty Kent villages), Camber Sands (the nearest sandy beach), Battle with its famous Abbey and 1066 battleground, Hastings and Romney and Hythe where you can have a ride on the wonderful little narrow gauge steam railway all the way to Dungeness. Bus and train station are right next to each other and just a few minutes walk from the cottage. OTHER THINGS TO NOTE PARKING There is no parking outside the cottage but drop off suitcases/unloading is allowed in the street for up to 1 hour. There are several pay and display car parks which are close by.More

Perfectly positioned in the centre of Rye, but also very quiet as it is tucked away from the busy high street. Ideally placed for pottering around the interesting shops and galleries. Even better for visiting the local pubs and restaurants, which luckily Rye has a...More

The place was nice, clean, well furnished & with a great view out of the window (although there was a lot of birds muck on the window which slightly spoilt it). The owner was responsive and friendly. However, there is one big problem - the...More
