About the neighbourhood
Gunnerside is located in upper Swaledale, in the spectacular Yorkshire Dales National Park. There are many walks direct from the door, including up Gunnerside Ghyll, past the lead mine ruins. The King's Head serves good pub grub and welcomes dogs, as does the Farmer's Arms, Muker. There is Mary Shaw's Cafe and Ghyllfoot Tearoom in the village, and in Reeth, 6 miles downdale, there are a variety of local and gift shops, including Scenicview Gallery, two bakeries, garage (for repairs/petrol), tearooms, three pubs and local Friday market. A mile further downdale, in Fremington, is the Dales Bike Centre and cakery. The Punch Bowl in Low Row and CB Inn in Arkengarthdale serve gastropub food and the Wensleydale Creamery in Hawes is worth a visit.
Getting around
A car is necessary to full explore the area, although there is a bus service from Richmond up Swaledale run by the Little White Bus Company.
