We really loved it to tell Lou and her family about the places which are worth a day trip. And believe it or not - there are even many more of them which are waiting to be visited ;-)

Perfectly positioned for exploring Crete, being close to Rethymnon, and mid-way between Chania and Heraklion. Everything you need for a self-catering holiday, with a big plus being a private pool for a dip after a hot day out seeing the sights.

About the neighbourhood
On the more than 15 km long sandy beach that lines the bay of Rethymnon there are plenty of sports and watersports on offer. This includes volleyball, windsurfing, water skiing, paragliding, sailing, wetbikes, jet skiing, pedaloes and much more. Rethymnon and the hotel suburbs also have some very popular mini golf facilities, and there are several 'little trains' providing various well-organized tours of the surroundings. Bars, discotheques and a colourful night-life can be found along the bay as well, and all-year in the picturesque Venetian old town of Rethymnon. It also hosts the famous Carnival (in February), the Renaissance Festival (in June and July), the Cretan Wine Festival (in July), and the Raki Festival (in September).
How to get there
The house is on a hillside above the village of Stavromenos, 12 kms East of the city of Rethymnon and approx. 80 kms from the two airports of Chania and Heraklion. During the tourism season, several charter airlines such as EasyJet and Monarch fly from the UK to Heraklion several times per week. Transavia flights go e.g. from the Netherlands, France and Denmark. Outside the tourism season, the two big Greek airlines Olympic and Aegean serve the island, mostly with changing flights in Athens or Thessaloniki. We recommend Eurocars Crete as our trusted car rental agency. You can easily find it in the Internet.
