About the neighbourhood
This relatively undiscovered corner of South West France with its Mediterranean type climate nestles on the edge of Gascony and Lomagne in department 82 and is ideally situated to discover the 'real unspoilt France'. The region boasts chateaux, fortified churches, pre-historic caves, dozens of medieval villages and impressive religious structures, including World Heritage Sites. It has a beautiful and varied landscape ranging from forested hills and valleys to dramatic river cliffs and rolling farmland. Auvillar, a medieval bastide village with its unusual circular corn exchange and impressive views over the Garonne valley, is listed as one of the prettiest villages in France (Un des plus beaux villages de France). It is also an important stop on the famous pilgrims walking route through France 'Le Chemin de Saint Jacques-de-Compostelle' or 'Way of Saint James'. Historically Auvillar was an important stronghold in the Gallo-Roman period and housed an affluent community. Evidence has been found to suggest that it was possibly rebuilt in the Middle Ages and its social and economic existence is clearly linked to the river Garonne. Today the beautiful village of about 1,000 residents has many charming attractions with a weekly farmers market, local restaurants, and a variety of shops including a bakery, grocer, newsagent, post office, a chemist, tea room and Soap shop, there is even a hairdresser if the need takes you! Le Farat is just minutes away from both Auvillar and the hamlet of Bardigues. It is nestled in its own little valley frequently surrounded by acres of sunflowers and beautiful views from every angle. The quiet country lanes that bring you to Le Farat occasionally see a car or a tractor and sometimes a cyclist or walker but little else! Surrounded on two sides by a long pruned hedge and approached along a choice of two gravelled drives, the entrance through the extensive lawned gardens and orchards to the lovely 200 year old stone manor house and outbuildings is impressive. The gardens and grounds of over 5 acres surround the property and contain a private fishing lake, walled saltwater swimming pool, BBQ area and games room.
Getting around

Fly into Toulouse and 50 minute drive up A62 to Valence D'Agen J8. Airlines that fly to Toulouse are Easyjet, Jet2, British Airways, Brussels Airlines, Lufthansa and KLM as well as Ryan Air.
