It has all basic amenities, with two fine restaurants, an excellent boulangerie, butcher and loads of wine houses. We had a wonderful stay at the gite. It is located in a beautiful, secluded location in mature woodland with a pretty garden extending down to the canal. The kitchen was very well-equipped and the wood burner kept us warm on chilly evenings! The beds...More
We had a wonderful time at this canal-side house. It was perfect for us and our friends who came and went as planned with no overlaps. Each morning we had breakfast outside on the canal-side table and watched boats and bicycles pass by. They were...More

We had a fantastic holiday with 4 adults and a 17 month old. It's a beautiful rustic property not far from the village of Santenay. We used the house boat to row down the canal and then walk into the village. Great BBQ and area...More
On arrival I was immediately impressed with the stunningly beautiful garden with a sweeping lawn leading down to the canal side. The house was immaculately clean with loads of country charm. Highlights of the holiday: sitting on the lawn by the canal with a glass...More

So glad you enjoyed your stay and you were able to make use of the garden thanks to the good weather. The restaurant where you enjoyed your meal, deserves a mention, Le Vendangerot, fine cuisine at a reasonable price.
My wife and I are long time users of this property. We first rented in 1999 and have now rented a total of 9 times. However, there had been a gap of 10 years before we returned in June 2017. We were delighted to find...More

So pleased to hear that your 9th visit to our canal-side house, resulted in "another excellent experience", despite there having been a gap of 10 years.
We said we would return and we did! This is our 2nd year at this beautiful, rustic little house. We simply love the location - cycling along the canal and through vineyards to the nearby villages. We weren't quite as lucky with the weather this...More
We had already stayed at La Maison sur le Canal in 2006 with two of our grownup children and their partners. So we had no hesitation in booking it again with our eldest son and his wife for a second stay. The location is superb,...More

Santenay is a small spa town (850 inhabitants) which, by quirk of french law, has a casino. It is famous for its Premier Cru wines and its 14th-century chateau. It has two fine restaurants and basic amenities, including two bakers, a butcher, and a handy supermarket. There is an open-air swimming pool, open July and August and horse-riding. Bikes can be hired from the tourist office, for cycling days out (or walking), meandering through the wine routes of the 'Grand Cru', from Santenay to Dijon, or follow the tow path from Santenay to Chalon-sur-Saône. Fantastic Sunday market in Chagny (3km).
Getting around
The village of Santenay combines water and wine and although a car is recommended for shopping and exploring, the village of Santenay is ideally situated for walking and cycling on the Route des Grands Crus and the Canal du Centre,
