Drive the 'million dollar view' Wainui Road and explore the numerous beaches along this route - Tauranga Bay, Mahinepua or Te Ngaere Bay - up to the stunning beauty of Matauri Bay. Alternatively drive north to the surfers' beach at Taupo Bay or pay a respectful visit to the giant kauri trees in Puketi Forest. 'Not only was this the perfect haven for a few days away from the 'rat race' but it is an impressive and admirable nurturing and management of our precious & fragile environment'- Richard. 'By far this is one of the amazing places we have been to while travelling. Isolated in a beautiful place; best Mother Nature provides'- Marten & Caroline. 'This place is beautiful beyond belief. So peaceful and perfect for wine drinking by the fire on a wind-swept evening'- Richie & Nicky.More

No keys, no worry! -there is a key, you can lock cabin if you wish; but why bother?- nobody knows you are there! First visit with me at the top house Villa Ohakiri; there I can meet / greet & orientate you; then down you drive 750m to your piece of paradise. Don't worry about the access road: it has been fixed & is good for all cars now; even Evil Knievel could manage it!

About the neighbourhood
Whangaroa is home to some of New Zealand's best sights - the Puketi Forest with its towering kauri trees and native birds; the Cavalli Islands and the Rainbow Warrior's final resting place; the family-friendly Tauranga Bay and the surfers' paradise at Taupo Bay; Butterfly Bay where monarch butterflies overwinter; and the 'million dollar views' on the Wainui Road coastal drive. Kaeo (the nearest village) has a Four Square supermarket, petrol stations, a hairdresser, boutique, coffee shops, an Indian restaurant and a takeaway. Geographically, the harbour and village of Whangaroa are just a short drive from the golf courses at Kauri Cliffs, Carrington, Kerikeri, Waitangi and Whangaroa itself. Matauri Bay is the launching pad for boat trips around the Cavalli islands or to dive the ...
How to get there
The main thing is to come here!- however you do it. Kaeo has the closest supermarket to us. In the room are folders of local information and insider knowledge; and I am always reachable for further advice or help. How about a Weekend Break??!!- you fly up to Kerikeri / Bay of Islands Airport; there you can Rent a car and 30mins later you are here, sharing New Zealand's hidden Paradise!Ask Terry for more details / prices / arrangements.Tel 021. 2627286.Driving up from Auckland don't miss the Matakohe Kauri & Pioneer Museum: everything about the wonderful Kauri Forests: I think it is the best private Museum in all NZ; just 20 mins off State Highway One, at Matakohe. Stop-off in Whangarei, the biggest town north of Auckland, population 45,000; a nice 'Town Basin' with all amenities for a rest ...
