More about Brockieside and the surrounding area: Brockieside is a wonderful row of three shepherds' stone cottages built between 1806-7 sitting in 1.5 acres of private ground. It is set high in the Kilsyth Hills with spectacular views over the Central Valley and the Pentland Hills, offering isolation and relaxation. The journey from the nearest town of Kilsyth is only two miles, yet as you travel up the winding Tak Ma Doon Road, a famous time trials hill for Scottish cyclists, you will feel as if you have been mysteriously transported much further North into rolling, sheep-strewn hills, dry stone walls with vast panoramic views all around. Venturing into the beauty that is just outside the front door, the rental property gives immediate access to hill walks to the north, in the Carron Valley Forest and Kilsyth Hills. A morning walk up the local Tom Tain Hill (453m and 40 mins from the front door) could lead to a day's exploration and a climb up Meikle Bin (570 m). Walk down Tak Ma Doon Road, past Kilsyth & Lennox Public Golf Club fairways, and turn off the path that meanders to the lovely waterfall and spectacular trees to arrive at the beautiful Colzium Country Estate. Here you will find a tea room, a beautiful walled garden and a substantial childrens play area. Apart from fishing, golf, and walking, days could be spent nearby, rock climbing in Auchinstarry Quarry or renting a cycle or boat at Auchinstarry Marina with wonderful paths to follow along the lengthy Forth and Clyde canal (with fishing), connecting East to West. For sightseeing there is the Antonine Wall, the Falkirk Wheel and Banton Loch, (with fishing) with the remains of the Battle of Kilsyth. Excursions from Kilsyth: If you want to venture futher afield Croy Railway Station is 4.5 miles and offers direct journeys to Glasgow 11 mins Stirling 20 mins and Edinburgh 30mins. The local town of Kilsyth is 2 miles and a 20 min walk, or 5 mins drive by car. Kilsyth has a high street with chemists, butchers, a fishmonger, bakeries, ironmongers, newsagents, greengrocer and many other local shops. Two supermarkets are also within the vicinity. Should you want to eat out there are three restaurants in town and several others within 5 miles. There are also takeaways which deliver if you'd prefer to eat in but not cook! More

About the neighbourhood
The nearby town of Kilsyth has many of the elements associated with a Scottish market town, including a pedestrianised Main Street with a wide range of local and specialist independent shops, attractive parks and gardens at Burngreen and Colzium complete with bandstands, welcoming hostelries such as the Boathouse and the Scarecrow pub, and a fair choice of local restaurants - European, Indian, Chinese and fish 'n' chips. [4]. The nearby villages of Croy, Banton, Queenzieburn, and Twechar are within easy walking distance from Kilsyth. Townhead reservoir, known locally as Banton Loch, is the site of the Battle of Kilsyth and is the main reservoir for the Fort and Clyde Canal. A thriving marina has been developed at Auchinstarry close to the climbing wall and lakes at the old quarry. Kilsyt...
