My husband and I stayed in this beautiful house in Trausse over the summer. It's settled in an enchanting small town. All the neighbors were very friendly. We speak a little French but we got by with enthusiasm and hand gestures. The house is in a great location. Not far from many tourist destinations like Carcassonne, a fortified town with cute boutiques and restaurants. There's many vineyards and wineries everywhere. I highly recommend staying in this cozy beautiful home.

Management response:

Thanks for staying in our home in Trausse and the great review. We hope you will visit again the next time you are in Southern France!

This gem of a place made the perfect homebase for exploring the Minervois wine growing region of southern France. The rooms were decorated and fully furnished, and it has a modern bathroom. It was very comfortable and had everything we needed. The village itself, Trausse, is of genuine rustic southern France character, surrounded by beautiful scenery of rolling hills and vinyards. It's safe, laid-back, and rich with history. It felt like a trip back in time with its 10th century church and 12th century tower. There were lots of interesting places to visit locally. We spent our time driving around the area seeing the medieval cities of Minerve and Carcassonne and the chateaus and castles, visiting the Canal du Midi, then hiking/biking the myraid of vineyards and backroads, wine tasting, and trying local eating places. All in all, it was an excellent place to stay for seeing the area.

About the neighbourhood
Trausse offers an authentic French lifestyle in a rural environment. Surrounded by vineyards, ancient Cathar castles, and the tree-lined Canal du Midi, the village is the perfect summer escape for those wanting a small historic town experience. Hiking, biking, trekking, fishing and easy access to local shopping and the World Heritage Site of Carcasonne makes it an ideal vacation location.

The village dates back more than a thousand years and was once a fortified hamlet in the 1200's during the infamous Cathar purges. Remains of the stone ramparts and gates are still in evidence. In the central square, the tenth century Tour “Trencavel” continues to dominate the local landscape. The Romans brought the first vines to the area but the citizens of the Minervois have made their wines w...

How to get there
Airport: Toulouse or Montpelier: 161.0 km
Railway: Narbonne: 48.0 km
From the US, flights usually go to Paris and then on to Toulouse or Montpelier, one and a half hour away in opposite directions from Trausse. Or you can go into Barcelona and make the 3 hour drive to Trausse. Ryan Air had many inexpensive flights from the UK to Carcassonne and Montpelier. The TGV goes from Paris to Narbonne (one hour away) in a little over 3 hours. You will want to rent a car to get around the local villages and tourist spots no matter if you travel by plane or train. Trausse is located in a rural area so a car is necessary. But this gives you the opportunity to stop for historic castles, towns such as Carcassonne, Beziers, or Narbonne, and at the many wineries and picturesque villages before you arrive. Famous French market towns such as St. Chinian, Olonzac and Mire... more
