Fantastic location for cyclist, close to all major climbs. Local knowledge of owners also revealed a fantastic spa nearby! Peaceful and relaxing with a typical laid back sleepy French village nearby. Fantastic hospitality. This was my second visit and both were equally memorable, that's why...More

About the neighbourhood
6 reasons that make a visit to our area worthwhile: 1. Europe's highest observatory. At 2877 metres above sea-level, the highest observatory in Europe – the Pic du Midi, founded in 1880 – provides a seamless transition from admiring the views of the surrounding area by day to admiring the astronomical views of the sky above by night. 2. Have a bath in Donkey Milk. Correct, donkey milk. There are eight spas in the Hautes-Pyrénées region, with a visit to at least one of them almost always included on any trip over there. At a spa called Aquensis in Bagneres-de-Bigorre you'll have the opportunity of bathing like Cleopatra in a private spa bath filled with the revitalising benefits of donkey's milk. Correct, donkeys milk. We're not sure if Mark Anthony is included. 3. The Cirque de Gavarine. The Cirque de Gavarine is a UNESCO World Heritage site, and we're glad that this is so. Often referred to as the Chamonix of the Pyrénées, we'd prefer to call it the Pyrénées of the Pyrénées, it is a focal point for climbers both in the winter and the summer; ice-climbers gathering over the former period, and rock climbers over the latter. A 15 min walk from the village of Gavarnie, this is easily one of the most beautiful Alpine views in the mountains of Europe. Seated with summits that reach over 3000m, with one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the world dropping 420m over the walls of the Cirque, this breath taking scene is one we'd recommend any mountain enthusiast to experience. 4. Jazz festival. If life is sweeter in the summer, in Marciac it is sweeter than anywhere else when the biggest names in jazz come to town to do their thing. You'll love the infectious optimism that takes over a village that devotes itself entirely to culture and sociable fun. 5. Taste the difference. The Midi-Pyrénées offers you a great feast of food, and its menus are packed with local products with an international reputation. Foie gras comes top of the list, while truffles, mysterious and too rare, are often associated with the region. We have many products with appellation d'origine contrôlée (guaranteed origin) status, and distinguished brands including Rocamadour goat's cheese, Quercy lamb, Lautrec garlic and Moissac chasselas grapes. Even nature offers its treasures to passers-by, with cep mushrooms to be found in the undergrowth in autumn and bryony along the paths in spring. Cassoulet, aligot (mashed potatoes with cheese), garbure (soup with cabbage and confit of goose), stockfish and gâteau à la broche (spit-roasted cake) are just some of the traditional recipes that make the Midi-Pyrénées a region of culinary delights. 6. Lourdes, Mother Mary Sanctuary Following the reports that Our Lady of Lourdes did appear to Bernadette Soubirous in 1858 on a total of eighteen occasions, Lourdes has become a major place of Roman Catholic pilgrimage and of miraculous healings. Yearly from March to October the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes is a place of mass pilgrimage from Europe and other parts of the world. The spring water from the grotto is believed by some to possess healing properties.
How to get there
Flying is the fastest and usually the cheapest way to get to us. Transfer taimes are 30 min. Lourdes/Tarbes, 45 min. Pau, 1h10m Toulouse, 2h Carcassonne. You can rent a car in any of those airports. Pyreneasy cottages can be found on the D929 between the villages of Izaux and Lortet. Exit 16 from the motorway A64 towards La Barthe de Neste, drive through to next village is Izaux. It is only 5-7 min away from the motorway. Pass through Izaux, and just after the sign for the end of the village you will see the Pyreneasy's sign with white and grey farmhouse on the left had side. Across the road there is a restaurant.
