There are lots of delicious restaurants in the centre to choose from, along with the charming small shops and a local market on a Sunday morning.
La Coquille is also ideally situated for you to explore the Charente, the Dordogne, the Atlantic coast and the vineyards of St Emillion and Bordeaux.
La Coquille offers you a safe peaceful spot to recharge your batteries and explore the local area.
It is a restored cottage, thought to date back to the 1700's and still retains many original features.
There is a large sitting room with large limestone fireplace and original sink.
This leads to the fully fitted kitchen, which includes oven, microwave, fridge/freezer, washing machine and dishwasher. There is also dining space.
The door leads to the shady terrace, with space for al fresco dining and just a short stroll to the dedicated pool.
From the sitting room, you pass through the formal dining room up the stairs and on the first floor there is a twin room, a family bathroom and an en-suite double bedroom.

This was a visit to the second gite after the first week was spent just south of the Dordogne. The weather wasn’t perfect but the gite was. It was well equipped and well furnished. The gite is set in rolling farmland and, during our stay, had a backdrop of a massive field of the most glorious sunflowers. There were deer living in the woodland and they strayed into full view grazing on a piece of meadowland. The patio area had a small hedge of lavender which attracted humming bird moths and zebra swallowtail butterflies. Aubeterre is close by and well worth a visit. We also enjoyed the weekly market in Chalais and ate out in a cafe there on two occasions. Lesley and Pete were available for advice but were completely unobtrusive hosts. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed a very peaceful and relaxing break. We may well return in 2024.

Gorgeous Gite in Perfect Setting!
Very well appointed, spacious and stylish Gite with bags of character and rustic charm but with every modern comfort ( great power shower and comfy beds!)
A perfect rural setting, our private BBQ terrace and pool overlooked a field of sunflowers! Nature lovers paradise - walks from the door down country lanes or across fields or into the forest to keep cool. We absolutely loved it. We stayed three weeks and didn’t want to leave!
Great location, only 10 mins from beautiful Aubeterre sur Dronne for cafes and restaurants and only 15 mins from Chalais for shopping and the market.
Lovely owners, very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. There when you need them but not at all intrusive.
Thank you Lesley and Pete for a wonderful stay. We will be back and so will our family and friends!!

First class accommodation with wonderful scenery
Could not fault this lovely Gite. Home from home with absolutely everything in it that you expect. Very tastefully decorated and wonderfully clean and tidy. Ideal for site seeing and lovely walks around the forest area. Very peaceful. We almost did not want to move out to site see! Patio area with BBQ which was ideal for the weather and a lot of time was spent reading and chilling. Would definitely recommend this accommodation and we look forward to a further visit soon.
