Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.

Exceptional Views - However Issues and Improvements Urgently Needed...
We have today arrived home from staying at Trefnant Hall which we booked through Best of Wales. Before I review our personal experience, I would like to highlight the fact we wanted to be in an isolated location and that is why we booked this accommodation. The views are more than exceptional, as is the location, with a lovely garden area to enjoy the surroundings and the welcome gift of scones, wine and prosecco - this was a lovely touch and it really wouldn't take much to make the property feel more private - and a little more attention to detail and care between guests would have ironed out some of our issues. Unfortunately, we did have numerous issues during our stay - the lack of cleanliness and the fact the accommodation had not been thoroughly cleaned or checked (certainly not in line with COVID regulations). We did address some of these with the owner and in fairness some were rectified. However, what we had not been made aware of when booking Trefnant Hall was the privacy issues (I had addressed and questioned this with the agent prior to booking; for us it is an important part of our holiday). The hot tub for this property is located immediately in front of the owners accommodation and directly outside their windows, this meant having to walk past their lounge window to use the hot tub, we did mention this to the owners and they did agree to keep their curtains drawn for the remainder of our stay which we appreciated but this did make us feel awkward at having to address this! We explained that we had discussed the privacy issues prior to booking and at no time was made aware of this... On arrival the owner indicated to us that the water levels in the hot tub needed to be topped up, this was not done throughout our 7 day stay and neither were the daily checks for pH, alkalinity and the sanitiser levels undertaken. The property is sandwiched between the owners' accommodation and a small holiday let at the other end, it felt very awkward and difficult for us to keep addressing our concerns, whilst still feeling comfortable and able to continue our holiday at Trefnant Hall albeit having paid a premium price for this! Whilst discussing the cleaning amongst other issues with the owner, she explained that she employed a neighbour to undertake this role, none the less, our concerns included stained carpets, stained and ripped duvet (bedroom 3), inadequate pillow protectors (in some cases none) smelly drains (bedroom 1 ensuite), all 3 ensuites with very dirty extractor fans, broken toilet flush and cracked / hole in window (bedroom 2). Although the kitchen looked fairly new, the cupboards needed wiping out, there were 2 very dirty saucepans and unusable frying pans (on day 3 one frying pan was eventually replaced, we didn't see the rest of the dirty ones again), some of the cleaning products as stated were either missing or empty (this isn't a problem until you decide not to bring them, only to then have to go and purchase them) the kettle was in desperate need of descaling and left with water in it, we purchased descaling solution and did this ourselves - we felt uncomfortable to keep highlighting ever mounting issues... We felt these were obvious to them as a business let alone issues that the cleaner would definitely be aware of! In addition and obvious to most people - the hot tub towels are very small, they are a standard bath towel (not sheets or beach towel size), the robes provided were old, rough and had stains on them. Clothing from previous guests were left in drawers in bedroom 3 and sweet wrappers were left on bedroom floor (how can issues like this be missed if thoroughly cleaned and checked, especially during current regulations and conditions!). The WiFi was very temperamental, not adequate for family use (especially with a teenager). We fully respect and appreciate the age of the building, however, it was a little disconcerting that there were 4 internal doors (2 downstairs and 2 upstairs) that connect directly to owners accommodation, albeit they were locked you could see light through both ones upstairs and hear the family / children on the other side. Although, this was not of great concern to us, in our opinion it would have been better to have a curtain in front of these doorways to make it feel a little less like you were living in someone else's home and more private when renting a holiday cottage. The lounge / kitchen / dining area is one room, it would have felt less cramped with the TV above the fireplace and another sofa in place of the 2 tub chairs / side table; allowing this area to feel cosier and communal. The downstairs space is very small (especially for 5 people) compared to the upstairs and the fact bedroom 3 is above the owners’ accommodation. There is no downstairs toilet and albeit the staircase is beautiful, there is a wasted space next to it and it is a bit of a trek going up a double staircase to use the loo! This review is genuine and It is somewhat with a heavy heart that we write this, however our experience has put us off returning, due to the issues mentioned above. If the hot tub could be moved in front of the hall and the cleanliness / quality issues improved; with a little more attention to detail, it would be so much better. I do have photographs of all the above mentioned; however - I do not want to post publicly for fear of embarrassment or harm to the business. If evidence is wanted / required I can provide this.

At Trefnant Hall we pride ourselves in giving our guests the holiday experience that meets up to our recently awarded 4 star Gold status. We are therefore deeply concerned that your stay did not your expectations. In the three years that we have been open, I have never had a guest question the layout or cleanliness of the property. You are clearly very private people who wanted to be isolated from other people. The Best of Wales booking information clearly states that the property is 'split with the front portion being the holiday let.' This was reiterated to you when you contacted Best of Wales for clarification. The hot tub had been cleaned out on the morning of your arrival (as it is between every set of guests) and water levels were adequate, at no point did I suggest anything other. Water quality is tested twice daily and chemicals added as required. In addition to this the hot tub has a 'frog' system which constantly releases Chlorine into the water to maintain quality. To suggest that the hot tub had not been maintained is simply not true - I am equally not sure how you would know if it had or had not been checked without you watching it all of the time!!! On day two of your holiday you contacted Best of Wales with some concerns, they in turn emailed me and I immediately came to discuss your concerns. You highlighted the privacy issues, at which point I agreed to close the curtains to our part of the property for the remainder of your stay, and showed me a stained saucepan, a frying pan with some of the non-stick bottom coming off and a couple of pair of socks that had been found in a draw. This is clearly totally unacceptable and has been addressed with my cleaner. I immediately apologized, removed the items and the following morning replaced the worn saucepan. I am sorry that you found the arrangement of furniture unsuitable, there are two, three-seater sofas and two chairs in the room, which is exactly as the pictures show on the Best of Wales booking site. I also appreciate that a downstairs toilet would be a nice luxury, however to suggest that I can simply add one in the underutilized space under my original, 16th century, listed stair case is simply ludicrous. I have taken on board all of the concerned that you raised - I have replaced the kettle, and the duvet that had a small tea stain on. I have scrutinized every piece of bed linen, towel, mattress and pillow protector and robe and I can honestly say that I have not found a single stain (I also note that you didn't provide any photographic evidence of these stains) I have reviewed the photographs that you sent Best of Wales and I am more than happy for them to be posted on here.

Superb place, incredible views
We were so delighted when we arrived at the building. It's an absolutely beautiful place, with an open plan kitchen/diner/lounge downstairs, and three double bedrooms upstairs, all en-suite. The cottage is in fact the front half of a country house, and such a lovely mix of classic and modern. As you walk in you see the extraordinary listed staircase, then clean, modern fittings in the huge downstairs room, with its gorgeous wooden floor. The three bedrooms are all a good size, with good comfy beds, and the en-suites look brand new. We were welcomed by the lovely host family, who live in the back half of the building, alongside the working farm next door. They were super-warm and friendly, and made us immediately feel comfortable and relaxed. The place had everything we needed to cook and prepare meals, as well as a barbecue outside, and of course the large hot tub. The views are ridiculously lovely, especially early in the morning as the mist rolls through the valley. Even more delightful, the building has house martins nesting under the eaves, meaning you can watch the chicks being fed from the garden, or even better, up close from the windowsills of the bedrooms. It's properly magical. We found just about everything mentioned in the previous review to be absolute nonsense, the whole place clean, superbly comfortable, and the hosts couldn't be lovelier or more accommodating.

Not up to standard
This cottage was not clean when we arrived, the hot tub was not cleaned during our stay, this is not only expect when you pay for this it is necessary for hygiene and health reasons! The location for this property is exceptional as are the views, however there are lots of areas that need attention. As stated in a previous review!

As in my response to the other member of your party that posted a negative review, the house was thoroughly cleaned prior to you arrival including the hot tub. Water quality is checked twice daily to ensure suitable pH and chlorine levels. To state that this had not been done, when you could not possibly know if it had or hadn't without you being with the hot tub for the entirely of your stay, is really upsetting due to the serious nature of this allegation. I reiterate, you family clearly came to the wrong property, in the wrong location, despite it being exactly as described.

Beautiful house with wonderful views!
I recently visited for a 4-night stay with my family and the grandparents - this beautiful house is a listed building with all the charm you'd expect - old wooden beams and floors, beautiful windows and a wood burner stove. The amenities are clean and modern, with a lovely kitchen and breakfast bar, and each room has its own ensuite bathroom (and TV!) - ideal if you're going away with other families/friends. The highlight for me was the hot tub and sunken garden/bbq area. The view across the valley from the decking was breathtaking, and from the tub you could watch the house Martins nesting in the eaves feeding their babies! The house is located in a very rural area, on a working dairy farm, and Welshpool is less than 15 mins away for essentials and supermarkets. The nearest neighbour is Powis Castle - a great day out in itself. The hosts were so friendly and welcoming, and we were greeted to afternoon tea with scones, strawberries, tea & coffee, milk and two (!) bottles of wine. Anything we needed we could just call through using the bell in the kitchen, and they were prompt to respond. They live in the back part of the house and there are locked adjoining doors, but we had complete peace and privacy. I'd highly recommend a visit here, you won't be disappointed.

Beautiful Location
We stayed here for a week and the location was beautiful. In arrival the house was perfectly clean with homemade scones and Prosecco. The hottub was a big hit and was checked every day. It is a working farm and a family do live in the other part of the house but we never felt uncomfortable or uneasy in fact we felt very welcome and it was a joy to be there. We enjoyed the Llanfair light railway, Powis Castle and enjoyed a walk along the nearby canal. We had games on the lawn outside and enjoyed the view from the sun loungers. A lovely break.

Lovely but
We stayed for a long weekend. The property is lovely but in need of some updating. The kitchen isn’t particularly well stocked for when you have 6 adults staying, particularly glasses. There doesn’t appear to be full sets of much, The views are outstanding and if you want peace, this is the place. A warning though to anyone booking with Best of Wales. They are a nightmare to deal with. Difficult get hold of and when you do there is mis information given. We asked if there was a BBQ they replied no, there is. We also asked if the garden was secure as it’s dog friendly. It isn’t secure. The owner was very helpful by putting up a temporary fence for us but be warned anyone with young children or dogs there is no secure fence and they can get easily onto the working farm. Best of Wales also sent us 8 text messages over a three night stay to remind us to be out of the property by 9am! We won’t book with Best of Wales again and my advice would be to contact the owner directly.
