Tina and Harry's Birdwatchers Cottage was an absolutely wonderful place to stay. Situated several hundred meters above sea level, the cottage has amazing panoramic views of the surrounding rainforest and mountains. It's large enough for 7-8 people, but still has a cozy charm that is...More

We loved staying at Birdwatchers. The owners were very helpful and available. The town of Sylvania is charming and welcoming and we had a great time hanging out in the local grocery and bar.

About the neighbourhood
Sylvania is a developing area on the edge of the Morne Trois Pitons World Heritage Site. . The property is up a steep track and hidden behind trees. Parking is shared with the neighbouring Pineapple Crossing and the block house you see in front of you as you arrive. The entrance to the Waitikubil trail is just by us so hikers do occasionally park or even wander in looking for the trail. The forest constantly encroaches and heleconia grow wild and surprise you with their huge flowers. It is rainforest, so there is rain and a plethora of insect and birdlife. we have nets on the windows so you can sleep with the shutters open , but walking in the bush requires insect repellent. There is a shop and a couple of bars and meals available to order
Getting around
Local buses do NOT work on a timetable but can usually be caught by the shop . Coming from town they would be heading to Castle Bruce, La Plaine or Marigot. They will wait to be full before leaving. Renting a 4X4 is easier but quite expensive . Remember there are very few gas stations so fill up in Canefield.
