Villa Vanguard is on a .33 acre parcel located within the Antigua's historic National Park that encompasses the historic working 18th century Nelson's Dockyard. You will be minutes away from many fine dining establishments, historic museum, shops and entertainment venues. Perfect

Vanguard villa is on a little hill at the entrance to Falmouth Harbour. Fabulous views, fabulous space and great pool. Perfect for up to 8 people. Would definitely come again.

Nice, But Be Aware of Some Things

Good Stuff: Great, I mean really great outdoor gathering areas for chatting, sunning, swimming, playing games, dining. Pool is slightly chilly at first (not heated) but feels great when you get used to it. View of Falmouth Harbour is amazing. Beach at the bottom of the road is just ok – nice for taking a stroll but not ideal for sun bathing/swimming. Make sure to walk down the beach to the rocks – really nice spot. Rooms are a nice size, as are bathrooms. Plenty of good beach/pool towels, linens, toilet paper, shampoo and body soap, dish soap, paper products and a starter supply of food for breakfast the day after you arrive. (Take your own conditioner - the water will kill your hair.) Wifi worked very well - we were able to stream movies (in the main room, not anywhere else). Lots of plates and utensils. Plenty of cups/glasses, but only 4 plastic ones so not enough for everyone to be at the pool with a drink without having real glass. Kitchen adequately stocked, but missing some basics (like measuring cups and a blender). Minimal prep space on counter. Private setting but felt totally safe and was nice to have outdoor lights you could leave on all night (but read the info below on using lights). Indoor and outdoor dining tables easily seat 8 each. The TipAdvisor listing is wrong - there is no microwave, no AC in main house (kitchen, dining living areas), no TV anywhere, no garage. People with the management company are very friendly. Other Info: If these folks want to attract more tourists they need to add TV, microwave, blender and a coffee pot, at a minimum. Having games/cards/puzzles in the house would have been nice - there was nothing. The pillows on the beds are minimal – only 1 per person. Was interesting that they don't use any bed pads or covers to keep the mattresses safe. We also discovered the owner is very picky about who she will let work on the villa so when we had a problem with the AC in one of the bedrooms we were basically out of luck because owner will only allow 1 company to work on her home and that guy was apparently too busy to get to us. Not fun sweating while you're sleeping. In addition, it's made clear they don't want you running the AC during the day to save on electricity. The road to the villa is a bit freaky, almost makes you wonder if the driver knows where he’s going – but don’t worry, he does! Wonderful taxi guy - Jaro - 268-783-3328 or 268-784-3328. Lights at the villa – the owner seems to be very concerned about people leaving lights on and even says they may charge you more if you use too much electricity! Water comes from a cistern so make sure you buy plenty of drinking water. Arrived at the villa on Saturday and found no one had paid to keep the phone working. Hostess said WE could go into town the next day and pay to have more time added!?! Then she said someone from the management company would take care of it. It took until Tuesday for that to occur. I think the main issue was being told something’s going to happen and then it didn't. The phone taking days to be activated. Agreeing on Wednesday afternoon for a housekeeping visit - then having them show up at 8:15 in the morning when we're still sleeping. (Very nice housekeeper BTW.) Being told they would call the AC folks and then no follow-up until I called 2 days later to ask what was happening (guy never did show). Flooring in house is nice, but totally impractical for the setting. Seems to be some sort of man-made laminate. Owner makes it very clear you are to not let it get wet. Odd to us that she put the flooring in areas which are wet a lot (kitchen, bathrooms) because it's obviously warping. Also a pain to have to remember to go around keeping the floor dry as people wander in and out from the pool area. The threshold for the downstairs bedroom is already ruined because of water intrusion. Of interest was the info in the notebook at the villa, some of which we would have never known unless we looked in the book: In addition to cautions about the floors, you are told there will be a $300 charge if you lose a key. And a $300 charge if you lose the garbage center key. And a $300 charge if one of the mosquito nets get damaged. Further, you are warned about taking care of things which they suggest are very expensive – the sofa and certain lamps/lighting fixtures. Honestly, why would you put expensive things in a rental property? I’m not saying guests shouldn’t be careful, but a lamp is a lamp, and accidents do happen. Why install one costing hundreds of dollars? We travel a lot, and I'm in real estate, so this just seems strange for a place that's designed to be a rental. Bottom line: yes, I would rent this place again. But I would probably make sure some things had been taken care of before I do.

Turtle Bay, known also as Dieppe Bay, is a very secluded, private residential area, with just about 40 villas around. And it is just about 7 miles/ 9 kilometers from the center of the hustle and entertaining center of English Harbour. Which is very well known among yachts lovers and sailors alike .
