About the neighbourhood
The villa lies in a residential area that includes a mixture of year-round residences and holiday homes.
Need for a car
You will need a car if you are staying at the property, both for to get around to see the sights and attractions and to get to the supermarkets etc. There are three medium-sized supermarkets within 1.5km of the villa (see the section on “Shopping – Food and provisions”), as well as a bank and pharmacy. There are many bars and restaurants within a couple of kilometres of the property (see the section on “Eating out – Restaurants” and “Appendix 2 – Local restaurants”). As you would expect, there are hundreds of bars, cafes and restaurants within a short drive. However, there are none that are right on our doorstep

Buses
The L-79 Portillo local bus service basically runs along the Carretera N-340 between Estepona and Marbella via San Pedro de Alcántara and Puerto Banús. It basically runs every half-hour during normal days, but only the principal stops mentioned above have scheduled times of departure, so an element of prudent This service calls at various intermediate request stops along the N-340, the nearest being the Cancelada junction.
Clearly you need to be on the inland side of the dual carriageway to pick up buses heading to Estepona and on the sea side to pick up buses heading towards San Pedro de Alcántara, Puerto Banús and Marbella.

Our villa is situated on the Costa del Sol, roughly equi-distant between Marbella (which lies to the east) and Estepona (which lies to the west). We are in an area called El Paraíso Alto located to the west of San Pedro de Alcántara. Our house is about 1km inland from the Autovia A-7 and about 1.5km from the coast; it is about a 6km drive to the centre of San Pedro de Alcántara.
Travel
It is possible to reach the Costa del Sol by other means, but we expect that most guests will arrive by air. The location of the property means that use of a car is necessary if you are to have an enjoyable stay. Accordingly, this section focuses on providing information for guests who plan to fly to one of the nearby airports and hire a car.
