Virpazar in Montenegro is probably not the place you’d think of visiting on a European trip. However, its location on scenic Lake Skadar makes it a useful place to find lodgings if intending to explore the lake and the region by foot, bike or boat. We stayed at Apartments Ivana, which is actually a complete two-bedroom house big enough to accommodate the Brady Bunch, well almost. There are beds everywhere so it must be aimed at families. For our night there, it was just the two of us. The beds and pillows were satisfactory, the shower and water pressure both good. Obviously in a house there are all the amenities, such as kitchen, lounge room, dining area etc. We spent a comfortable night there and the price is amazing, just 60€. Don’t expect to pay by card, this is definitely a cash-only enterprise, as are most of the businesses in this town (and probably the country). Without help, there is no way on Earth that you can find Apartments Ivana. The GPS had no idea. By ringing ahead, the owners will meet you in the town and lead you to the house. This is a tiny business run by a lovely family and they deserve all the support tourists can give them. Apartments Ivana comes highly recommended.
Aside: There is an iconic photo of the river flowing into Lake Skadar as it winds around a lush green hill. We tried to find the spot by car. Not going to happen. The road there, assuming we were on the right one, is ridiculously narrow and if you need to pass a local coming the other way, is almost impossible. We gave up after one such encounter. You will need to ride or walk.
