This terraced cottage at No8 is the sister of No4 (almost identical and practically next door) sitting on the banks of the Crinan Canal,at Cairnbaan, Lochgilphead close to Kilmartin in Argyll.
The Crinan Canal offers the ideal environment to enjoy the wonderful scenery, fishing, canoeing, sailing, horse riding, walking and cycling with many cycle tracks signposted throughout the glen and plenty of forests and hills nearby should you wish something more energetic. Wildlife includes many woodland birds and birds of prey, beavers in the reserve at Knapdale, red squirrels, red and roe deer, seals, otters and occasionally pine martins. There is a key box entry system which allows the guests to arrive when they want after 15:00 - should earlier entry be required - this may be arranged depending on when the previous guest depart. Guests can contact me by mobile, text or email during their visit should they require or if any problems arise as I only live 5 minutes away.

A lovely cosy cottage in a great location. The wood-burning stove is especially good. The shower over the bath is a bit tricky but the owner is aware of and sorting out the problem. Fabulous place, highly recommended.

About the neighbourhood
Crinan Canal Cottage is situated in the much sought-after hamlet of Cairnbaan, a charming area of unspoilt natural beauty approximately halfway along the Crinan Canal. The canal itself is picturesque and beautifully landscaped, and provides plenty of interest with the daytime passage of boats to and fro.Cairnbaan is very conveniently located within 3 miles of the shopping and leisure facilities of the small town of Lochgilphead, and within 2 hours' drive of Glasgow. Lochgilphead is the main centre for mid-Argyll and its amenities include shops, schools, businesses, sports facilities, a swimming pool, a hospital and council offices. Cairnbaan is also situated approximately 30 miles south of Oban - known as the Gateway to the Isles.
Getting around
During its course from Ardrishaig northwards to Crinan Loch, the Crinan canal passes through some of Argyll's most outstanding countryside, and its 15 locks and 7 swing bridges provide added interest for visitors. For the sporting guest, golf is available at the nearby Lochgilphead Golf Club.

The excellent fishing includes facilities for sea angling and salmon fishing. Many attractive hill forest walks are to be found in the vicinity of the hotel and walking or cycling along the Crinan Canal is a popular pursuit. Crinan Canal Cottage is an easy drive from the nearby village of Tayvallich. There are opportunities for sailing, and yachts are available for charter.

In Lochgilphead, proceed along the main road (A83) and at the final roundabout, take the A816 to Oban. Continue along A816 for approximately 2 miles, until the road forks to the right and shows signs for Oban. Take the left hand turning into Cairnbaan. From Oban, take the A816 south for Lochgilphead. Continue for approx 30 miles and pass through the village of Kilmartin. After about 5 miles the road forks to the left and shows signs for Lochgilphead, but there will be a sign for Cairnbaan to the right. Turn right into Cairnbaan, Crinan Canal Cottage is located at Cairnbaan Cottages on the banks of the Crinan Canal - which is a 9 mile waterway link through the Kintyre Peninsula. The cottage is situated midway along the canal.
