As this Gite is on the ground level only it is suitable for families with very young children and those who find stairs difficult. As you enter the front door the main bedroom is to the left. It has a shuttered window overlooking the courtyard., is spacious with an English double bed (4' 6'') and an ensuite bathroom . The bathroom has a shower, bidet and toilet and to one side is a purpose built area with a washing machine, iron/ironing board and clothes airer. Further along the hallway is a well-equipped kitchen with an electric oven, a fridge/freezer, hob and a combination microwave/grill (all electric). The kitchen adjoins a large pleasantly decorated sitting and dining area with comfortable chairs and sofa. It has a round (gate-leg) table which expands to sit 4 plus. Gite 1 has the use of a table and chairs in the courtyard for outside dining. The sitting/dining area has a shuttered window overlooking Rue Miton. Also at this end of the gite is the second bedroom across from the sitting/dining room. It is a bright and sunny room with two single (3') beds. Next to the bedroom is a newly renovated bathroom with a modern walk-in shower, wash basin, toilet and heated towel rail. The house/Gite is in the old part of Magalas, a pretty walled Medieval village and within a few minutes walk of a boulangerie (bakery), two bars, a mini Mart, bank (ATM machine) and Pharmacy. You can eat at Excalibur, one of the bars in the centre of the village which doubles as a restaurant. Alternatively you can buy local produce and cook at home. There is a thriving Wednesday morning market selling local produce or take a short drive to the local Intermarche (supermarket). Next to Intermarche is an excellent boulangerie/boucheries where they do 'ready meals' if you don't feel like cooking at home. The selection changes daily has a regional flavour and is excellent value. There is free parking In the village either at the car park facing the Marie (Town Hall) or in nearby Rue de la Gare. There are some spaces available near the Cross as you enter the village but they are very popular but are the nearest to Rue Francaise. Magalas is a popular working village within 20-25 kilometres of excellent beaches, 15 kilometres from the Canal du Midi and rests in the foothills of the Languedoc National Park and its mountains. There are facilities for biking along the Canal du Midi and nearer Magalas the opportunity to horse ride, kayak and walk/hike. Take the opportunity to taste the local wine at one of the many wineries nearby as you are in the heart of the Languedoc's wine growing area. Winegrowers generally are very happy for you to taste their wines and there is no pressure to buy although it is unlikely you will walk away without finding something you like. Take a drive to the nearby town of Pezenas and eat in one of the many restaurants to be found in the cobbled winding historic streets. A little further are the towns of Narbonne, Beziers and the walled cities of Minerve and Carcassonne, all with fascinating histories. Further afield are great places such as Arles, Nimes, Pont du Gard and in the opposite direction towards the Spanish border, Collioure. All worth visiting. nearest Airports: Beziers (20 mins), Carcassonne, Montpellier (1hr), Perpignon (1.5hrs) and Girona (2hrs). There is a railway station in the centre of the village for the Beziers - Millau line and there are regular buses to Beziers and Bedarieux. More
