Expect regular visits from elephant, buffalo, rhino, water buck among a host of other game while you prepare for your day ahead. Plan your trip into Kruger as due to our position in Marloth Park between the Crocodile and Malelane gates it allows to enter in one gate and leave through the other so not back tracking on any routes and getting to see as much of the park as possible. Or spend the day in Marloth safely walking in the African bush or visit our fenced private reserve “Lionspruit” to find the ruling pride of lions among others of the Big 5. Or simply just relax on the deck with a good book while keeping an eye on the river activity and awaiting regular visits in the garden from zebra, warthogs and even giraffe. Whatever you do ensure you get back to the house as afternoon becomes evening and enjoy sundowners with spectacular sunsets over Kruger Park directly in front of the house. Night is spent either at the fire pit enjoying a barbecue or once again on the deck listening to the night shift. Expect to hear the contact calls to each other of the hippo, the unmissable sound of the hyena and the thrilling and unmistakable call of the lions. Keep your eyes on the garden though as we usually get a visitor or two from a silent kudu to “Arnold” the resident duiker who lives behind the house before retiring to bed in eager anticipation of another fabulous day ahead. If you want to learn the secret of where South African's holiday and experience an inexpensive but real safari experience then Majuli River Lodge is the ideal place. We hope we cover everything below but please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions you may have or if we can offer advice on your safari experience. The House You rent the entire house to yourselves. You will never have to share. It is located with the Crocodile River and Kruger Park directly in front of you. This is rare and similar to a beach front property. There is a fence separating you from the Big Game that come up though so it means you can get to see and photograph animals like elephant metres away but still in a safe environment. You are surrounded by bush so expect regular visits in the garden too. Zebra, kudu and giraffe are common visitors. It has two air conditioned bedrooms with a queen size bed in one and two singles in the other. There is a sleeper couch in the living room which allows up to 6 people to stay. There are two bathrooms with one shower (there is an outside shower too for when it gets hot). There is a fully kitted out kitchen with everything you need (oven, hob, fridge freezer, coffee machine, kettle, plates, pots, cutlery) for self catering. A trip to South Africa is not complete without a bush braai and we have a fully lit pit outside with all the utensils needed for a memorable barbeque in the African bush. Or if it gets hot why not jump into our splash pool to cool down. The best part of the house is the large secure decking area upstairs. This has over 3kms of uninterrupted views over the Crocodile River and Kruger Park. With other houses you have to drive around to get the views whereas you will have them right in front of you. The large deck is where you will spend all your time and is accessed through the fold away doors in the living room. There is a small bar there with fridge to keep your drinks cool and on hand. Being raised has another important benefit. I remember being nervous my first time in the bush, especially at night, but being on the deck allows you to experience all the bush has to offer without the feeling of being too exposed out in the open. Our manager, Maritza, is a local from the bush and a real star. She lives very close by and is only a phone call away. She can book guided tours, replace bedding and towels, offer any advice about the park or just answer any questions you may have. She is there to help so if you have any problems or you need anything, just give her a call. The house is fully alarmed and linked to a 24 hour security company in the park for added confidence. Marloth Park Marloth Park is a unique place in South Africa. It’s a 1500 hectare residential wildlife conservancy in natural bush right on the doorstep of Kruger with its own wildlife population, including zebras, impala, kudu, wildebeest, giraffes, warthogs, and several other species. It has two small shopping centres for food and other provisions off-license, and a fuel station. There’s also three excellent pubs, each with family style restaurants where you can eat or drink

Absolutely wonderful, great views
The views at Majuli River Lodge were fantastic. Lovely setup. House keeping was a little lax, as it is not serviced daily. Overall we had a really great time. Will definitely will book again at the same place.

Wonderfull deck and view on kruger
The deck is the greatest asset. We enjoyed our time here. The watertub was also very refresshing on the hot day we had. On the downside were the mouse that eat on my clothes. For us this was a whole new experience but we adjusted to the bush in a day or 2. Very covienent for a visit to kruger. Would do it again.

Excellent location, wonderful deck - let down by management
Let me start by saying we really enjoyed our time at Marloth Park and that Majuli River Lodge is in a fantastic location whch the raised deck takes advantage of. If the Lodge is brought up to a decent standard - as we were told by the local manager it is going to be - then it will be a great place to stay. However, we were disappointed that the local manager could not be contacted until after we arrived (we tried for several hours on the phone number we had been given) and did not come to the house until the next day. In addition, while the house has most facilities you need - such as fridge, freezer, oven and bedroom aircon - it badly needs some TLC. The downstairs shower room in particular was covered in mould so not pleasant to use. The house is cheap to rent - which is why we still give it 3 stars - but had we known about the poor state of maintenance we would have looked at other properties in Marloth Park and paid more if necessary.

Steve Sorry about what happened with your stay and thanks for getting in touch. It's a very special holiday home that I rent out so while all the previous reviews have been very favorable we may have taken our eyes off the ball. I will certainly address why there was nobody to meet you and why the house was not cleaned properly. Something slipped but I will ensure this does not happen again. We are taking nearly a month from bookings later this month to totally open up the living area upstairs with the outside decking. We are also extending the decking area with couches to have a larger seating area and maybe an outside bar to take in the spectacular views. We will also be painting and freshening up the place so if you do decide to visit again we can promise the experience will be 5 star like previous guests experienced. Again apologies and thanks for taking the time to get in touch. Regards Derrick

Out of Africa
Loved the place. Got the bush feel but with good security and conveniences. Wonderful river views and game sightings. The grocery stores in Marloth Park were actually cheaper than outside big stores. Very friendly afrikaan owners. Security and gate staff were great. Met personally with Heilga. What a doll! Answered all our questions and arranged tours. Just plan on spending time with binoculars on the deck. You'll be thrilled. Use the brai. So much fun.

Beautifull house in great surroundings
The guesthouse looks great, standing in a fantastic location in Marloth Park., right at the Olifantsriver looking over Kruger Park. The interior is a bit dated, house (especially the kitchen) needed a good clean up. We think the house didn't have visitors for quite a while. After getting settled (house keeper was very nice by the way, was available for questions etc at anytime) we sat down on the upper deck and we were amazed by the great view. We spotted elephant, hippo, croc, birds and lots more within the hour. We had great fun watching the view and have quality time with the family. Kruger Park gate is 20 min. drive away, but even without visiting Kruger you really get the feeling of being part of the African Bush. At night you can make a fire at the fire pit downstairs and enjoy the african nights while having a drink around the fire. Overall the house is really worth visiting, but, we think if it's maintained better it will be an even greater experiece for the guests visiting Marloth Park.

Thanks for your booking and review. We are surprised that you felt the house is a little dated as we recently spent to update all the bedrooms. However we are excited as planning a complete re-vamp of the complete house to make it closer to 5 star. Thanks again, Derrick

A brilliant stay
I recently travelled with friends to visit Kruger NP and we stayed in Majuli Lodge and we had a truly brilliant stay. The lodge was perfect for us. It had an elevated balcony that was just perfect to sit and eat and enjoy an afternoon drink while we relaxed and enjoyed the scenery. There is a river running in front of the property and we were lucky enough to watch a herd of elephants playing in the water!!! There is also a plunge pool to cool off at the end of a hot day game viewing in Kruger. There are some great local restaurants that we dined at in Marloth Park but we were also able to visit the supermarket and cook at home because the kitchen was fully stocked with everything we needed. We had two bathrooms and we also had air conditioning in both the bedrooms. Our only regret was that we didn't stay longer. We were extremely comfortable in the lodge and very relaxed and we were certainly not ready to leave.

FABULOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!
First the Positive: Nicki, the manager on duty gave us a warm, friendly welcome upon arrival. The property was spotless and we didn't want or need anything. Everything was provided for. We had a truly fabulous, awesome, terrific week at Majuli. The property and location were EXACTLY as advertised! We were a family staying there. My husband and one of our sons (20 years old). My husband enjoyed the deck and he had his binoculars, camera and tripod set up within minutes of arrival. The sightings we saw from the deck across the Croc River into KNP alone were amazing. Buffalo, Elephant, Hippo, Fish Eagles; King Fishers, Water buck, Monkeys and Impala --- to name but a few. On the property, we had daily visits from Wildebeest, Zebra, Warthog, monkeys, birds a plenty. Both bedrooms had aircons, which we used every day. The splash pool - ideal venue to cool down with a sundowner of an afternoon. Tiny little negative: (It's an suggestion on improvement rather than a negative) Both the upstairs and downstairs showers could do with 'shower buddies' hanging on the taps, so there's somewhere to put your soap, shampoo, sponges while showering, etc instead of dumping them on the floor. Perhaps also a hook or two to hang clothes on while in shower. THANK YOU MAJULI FOR A WONDERFUL BREAK - WE W-I-L-L BE BACK !!!

Great House, Great Location, Terrific wildlife
This is the third time that we have stayed at this property, and it just gets better, the house is in a fantastic location and the views into Kruger are terrific, if you sit on the balcony and wait you will be amazed what comes wandering along. Every time we have visited the house has been improved a little, and the new manager Jeannine has continued this, the house was spotless and there is a new cooker which has been fitted since our last stay in December 2012. The house is equipped with everything you could need, including a charcoal/wood braai in the garden and a gas one on the balcony. Each time we have stayed there have been different experiences and viewings, and this time we added lions, rhinos and ground horn-bills to our list of animals seen from the balcony without travelling more than a few yards from the bedroom. The completion of the tarmac road to Crocodile gate has improved things terrifically and it is now only half an hour from the front door to Crocodile gate where you can enter Kruger park. As usual during our stay the garden was visited by the usual assortment of Kudu, Zebra, Impala, Warthogs and Baboons on occasion. We did several day trips into Kruger, mixed with lazy days just sitting on the balcony, and saw a huge variety of wildlife, including the big 5, several packs of wild dogs, lots of Hyenas and a huge variety of bird life, this is a great location for your African holiday, and i am absolutely sure we will be back again next year.

We were honored to accommodate you again and we are delighted the changes/upgrades we made have gone down well. You really had a special stay seeing 4 of the Big 5 from the deck of the house! Can't wait to see you in the bush again. Derrick

About the neighbourhood
Do you want a real safari experience in a safe environment that is within the African bush but has all the amenities you would require like a restaurant, bar, and grocery shop? Accessible with a standard rental Marloth Park is a wildlife conservancy bordering Kruger Park. There are houses in the park and animals have free reign to walk the park. Expect to see plenty of visitors in the garden like zebra, warthog, kudu, giraffe, etc. All the safe game are in the park but bordering Kruger you also experience close up sightings of the larger, more dangerous game like lion, elephant, rhino, etc. It means you are safe while enjoying your barbque but in the knowledge that big game are close by. Also there is a very private game reserve in Marloth with 4 of the Big 5. You can enter this park and at times enjoy the whole park to yourself. The great benefit of this option over a standard safari trip is you are not in the traditional tourism circuit meeting great and interesting locals who live full time in the bush and have great advice and stories. A trip to the local bar will be one of the highlights and one experienced by very few other travelers. Add to that you are saving a fortune then it really could be the best option for you.
Getting around
You have access to the entire Marloth Park. Just driving to the shop will bring encounters with giraffe, zebra, etc. so this alone is a great adventure. There is also a private reserve attached to the park and you can enter this with a nominal fee. It has rhino and lion too and you could be the only person in the whole park at the time so great for immersing yourself in the bush.

How to get there
A car is needed for the park but a standard rental car is fine for both the park and for trips into Kruger Park. We will provide full directions and we can book any guided tours or game drives for you if you want.
