Right on the dorrstep are excellent walking and cycling routes. A Sulana is one of the three gîtes of Les Bergeries du Cabardès, dream home of Sue and Louis, an Anglo-Corsican couple. Weathered stones, old beams, an award-winning garden, and accommodation designed and executed with taste and originality conspire to charm Sue and Louis' guests so much that they often say 'You've created a little corner of paradise'. Sue and Louis were lucky to have found the perfect place for this creation, in such a marvellous but surprisingly little known corner of southern France. Take any direction and you'll find beautiful landscapes, ever different, all unspoilt , and a seemingly limitless number of sights to suit all ages and tastes. Sue and Louis' attention to detail and quality, their friendly and informative yet discreet welcome, and the fact that the maximum number of guests in the three gîtes totals only eight make for a superlatively relaxing stay in enchanting surroundings. A Sulana ('the one which faces south' in Corsican, Louis' mother tongue) was designed with 2 couples in mind but of course it's also highly suitable tor a family of 3-4, or even just for 2 (special 2 people rates are offered outside peak season). Both bedrooms are the same size and have ensuite shower rooms identical in every respect apart from the colour scheme. One of these bedrooms, like the spacious sitting room with its open-plan fully equipped kitchen, opens onto the broad south-facing terrace which spans the entire front of the property. Guests are invited to share the lovely pool, the luxurious red cedar hot tub, and the glorious and original garden, while enjoying the splendid views south towards the Pyrenees. The ambience in our picturesque village is quintessentially French; you can amble on foot to the bakery for morning croissants, drop into the café-restaurant for a pastis, or a meal, and watch folk playing boules on the square. Just down the road (2 kms) we have a Michelin-starred restaurant.More

About the neighbourhood
Brilliant area with loads of places to visit and explore, some famous, such as Carcassonne, the Canal du Midi and the Cathar Castles, some way off the beaten tourist track. Medieval Abbeys, vineyards (excellent wines at great value for money), prehistoric sites, Romain remains incredible caves, forests, lakes. Great for walking and cycling; also kayaking, rafting, riding. Day trips to the Pyrenees or the Mediterranean. We're next to Montolieu, the book and arts village.
Getting around
It's best to have a car because there are so many wonderful places to visit, and the public bus service is limited to one or two buses a day, and that's not every day! Some of our guests however are very happy not to have a car, and borrow our bikes. We give lifts too whenever we can, but of course can't promise anything on that score.
