Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.

Good to be back!
This was our 2nd holiday in this lovely Cottage and it lived up to all expectations. It has every thing that you need and plenty of room for everyone to enjoy. We were lucky enough to have perfect weather and sunshine this week and got to enjoy many walks, sadly this meant we were too tired in the evening to make use of the games room. The wood burning stove in the living room was all prepared for some cosy nights in but again with the warm weather, we only used it twice. The Cottage is the perfect location for walks in all directions and easy driving access to Ambleside, Hawkshead, Grasmere etc. The Waterfall walk and cake walk to Chesters for a nice mug of hot chocolate and some homemade cake is always on our list of things to do along with a walk over the ridge to Grasmere for some hot soup and a cheesy scone at Baldry's cafe. Wainrights Inn is a 2 minute walk from the Cottage if you fancy a nice pint and some good homemade food. Brambles cafe is also within a 2 minute walk from the cottage along with the local shop. Sadly we didn't have time to fit in a nice breakfast at Brambles, but if you want to cook your own, I recommend the lovely fresh bread and farm eggs from the shop next door. I can't wait to book another holiday here for us all to enjoy :-)

Old Postmasters Cottage
We had an amazing weeks stay at The OldPostmasters Cottage. The cottage is beautiful and has everything you need to make it home for a week. The added bonus was the games room, which kept the kids and adults entertained while we was giving our legs a rest! The rooms are bigger then I expected for a cottage, really nice and airy with a lovely modern bathroom. Everything you need is on the doorstep, a cafe, corner shop (which stocks essentials and has a gift section and waterproofs upstairs) Wainwrights pub. There’s also the Britania Pub a short walk away, which does lovely food. We didn’t use the car, apart from a drive to the boat at Ambleside. You can walk out of the door turn left or right and there’s some lovely walks. Warren, the owner emailed everything we needed over, even some maps for ideas of walks. And there plenty of information in a folder at the cottage. If you’re thinking of booking, please do, its perfect for a nice break!

Cosy and well-equipped
We had a great few nights staying at the cottage and would definitely book it again. It was equipped with everything that we needed and served as a perfect base of operations for our rambling excursions. Situated thirty seconds from the village shop, a couple of minutes from the nearest pub and surrounded by possibilities for adventures. Spending the days in beautiful scenery and evenings nice and cosy by a fireplace with a few drinks - exactly what we wanted from a trip to the Lakes.

Postoffice cottage Chapel Stile
Excellent location very comfy cottage Local shop almost opposite. Exceedingly good pub just down road serving excellent food. Also the Brittania further along in Elterwater. Walks from here down the Langdale valley to some more pubs and hotel. New Dungeon Gill and Old Dungeon Gill and Sticklebarn all offer food and well worth a visit. Also walk to Grasmere and have tea in Fairyland on lake

Absolutely perfect cottage for families with kids & dogs
First impressions - we walked in and felt like we were greeting an old friend, everything was just perfect and so welcoming, with games and books, and great family spaces on 2 different floors. We really loved our stay here. The cottage itself is light and airy, well equipped, wifi was good, everything was spotlessly clean, comfy beds, and the kitchen is well equipped for almost anything you might want to cook. Oh, and the shower was amazing too. There are walks in all directions literally from the doorstep, you can head up into the hills, along the riverside, or just up to the local church or shop (well worth a visit too). The local pub is a stone's throw away, and there's a bus stop just over the road if you don't fancy driving. If you're looking for a family getwaway with all the charm & character of a village in the Lakes, I challenge you to find anywhere more perfectly suited !

Beautiful cottage
Stayed at The postmasters Cottage in chapel Stile in April. What a fantastic cottage from walking in the door I knew it would be a great place to stay. It has a kitchen with all the facilities required for cooking and eating. Sitting in the lounge you can see brilliant views of the mountains. The bed and bedroom was very warm and cozy. The bathroom had a great shower and bath. Plenty of room for a family with four bedrooms. There was also a great games room. There was a very good little shop and across the road and wainwrights pub about 300 yards away. Thank you Warren for our beautiful, peaceful stay will definitely be back. Helen

"Everything you could want for a "PERFECT" Holiday Cottage
We arrived at 4pm on Monday 19/4/21 ,to the Postmasters Cottage in Chapel Sile Village , and everything inside was totally clean and tidy as expected but especially due to Covid at the time. We were impressed by the size of the cottage ,with one large double bedroom upstairs and a smaller two single beds bedroom next to the bathroom . Then you go downstairs from the kitchen and there is a play room with lots of games inc. pool table , and another bedroom with a double bed. There was plenty of toiletries available and plenty of towels aswel. The kitchen is a nice size with every electrical appliance available for a great short break at the cottage. The front room was a nice size with satellite tv and dvd player available as well as two settees for comfort and space. Warren was there for us when we had an issue with the hot water settings and it was resolved the same day but apart from that minor issue, we couldn"t fault the place and facilities which is why we definately would recommend the Postmasters Cottage to everyone who wants a quality short self catering break in the peaceful village of Chapel Stile. The village also has a convenient co-op store just around the corner from the cottage with everything you need for days out, food, maps etc and further down the road, there"s the Villages local public house called "Wainrights Inn" which was open to outside service when we were there due to covid rules in April but they always greeted us with a smile and the service was first class every visit. We definately will be returning to this special place of Chapel Stile in the near future and to the exceptional "POSTMATERS COTTAGE".

A lovely Lakes retreat
This welcoming cottage is located in the quiet village of Chapel Stile. Roomy and comfortable it offers all you need for a peaceful stay in the Lakes. Close to lots of walks for all levels and with a local shop for goodies, the old Postmaster’s cottage has everything you need. Warren provides great instructions and directions and was also ever helpful throughout our stay. Would love to be going back soon, but may have to wait a while! Thanks for everything, Warren 😃
