KwaThula is an airy split-level cottage with skylights overhead and a free-standing wood-burning fireplace on the upper level, with extensive sea and coastal views including the Cape Columbine nature reserve and its lighthouse. Designed by noted architect, Jaco Visser, and built with thick plaster walls and characterful chimneys in the architectural vernacular of traditional Cape West Coast fishermen's cottages, the top level is open plan with lounge, kitchen and dining area flowing together and opening onto two sea-view porches with banks of aluminium and glass doors that fold out and away beneath split-board pitched ceilings with exposed trusses. The larger porch has a braai and small seating area great for sundowners and stargazing. The lower level has traditional reed-thatched ceilings and two en-suite bedrooms with expansive walk-in showers. Each bedroom has its own free-standing wood burning fireplace. Double French doors open from each bedroom onto a small courtyard with seating and a hammock in the shade. A path leads from the cottage through the indigenous garden to a private gate leading toward the beach. With the tight-sealing aluminium windows, skylights and doors and the wood-burning fireplaces, the cottage is fantastic any season and in any weather.More

About the neighbourhood
The village is quite small and walkable.
How to get there
From Cape Town, take the R27 north to the Vredenburg turnoff (R45). Drive straight through Vredenburg and continue on to Paternoster. The drive from central Cape Town or the airport takes approximately 2 hours. Please note that check-in time is strictly between 14h00 – 17h00 (Mon – Thu), 14h00 – 19h00 (Fri) & 14h00 – 16h00 (Sat & Sun & Public Holidays). We utilise the services of a local agency as we live 2 hours away in Cape Town when not using the cottage ourselves. No check-ins will be entertained on Christmas day, Good Friday or New Year's Day. A surcharge of R200 per hour or part thereof, will be charged for any arrival later than check-in time as indicated. As you are planning your travels to arrive, please take these requirements into account.
